Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed all relevant government agencies to increase their efforts to curb PM2.5 dust in Bangkok and across the country.

Government spokesman Anucha Burapachaisri said today (Friday) that the prime minister had emphasised measures on the national agenda, which include the increased efficiency of management in the prevention and reduction of the air pollutants at their source and to increase the efficiency of all relevant units in easing the impacts of PM2.5 fine dust on the public.

He said that an early warning system will be set up to alert the public, especially high-risk groups, to avoid outdoor activities and to wear face masks when they are outdoors, while police and transport officials were instructed to tighten up checks on exhaust emissions and to ease traffic congestion.

The government, he said, has been accelerating the use of alternative energy, such as solar cells, wind energy, biomass, hydro floating solar panels and electric vehicles among others,to reduce the use of fossil fuel, in order to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065.

Air pollution, especially in the northern provinces, has become so bad that some people have resorted to buying oxygen concentrators to help in breathing, while nose irritation has become increasingly common.

Biofuel Production from Sugarcane in Thailand

Sugarcane ethanol (molasses ethanol) is the major biofuel used for transport in the country, contributing about 59% of the total production of ethanol.

Much of the sugarcane crop linked to the bad air quality is grown to improve ... air quality.   :clap2:

Oh no, now we will get the anti mask cry babies chucking their toys again!

So what is the minister of public health going to do? I didn't see him mentioned. Isn't this primarily his responsibility?

  • Popular Post

This guy is such a idiot it's beyond belief.

These agencies and the BiB have absolutely no intention of losing their internet connection by driving around the paddies, sugarcane fields, around Nakhon Nowhere in pursuit of farmers burning their stubble as they have done for donkeys years.

Too, nobody is taking any notice of you...

As for his statement about no more coups, we've all heard that before and of course it's no longer upto him, free bunker living or not.

You got that right, as their air is bad as ours. I guess all the government can do is raise the fines and have more people looking for those who start the fires?

Coming next:: Plan to address floods in Bangkok!

Country is becoming next Mexico.

6 months a year I would not set a foot in Thailand. Anyone coming from a country with decent air quality want a huge health shock. Head to Thailand.

NOW we'll see some action!

Although probably not until rainy season.

When I was a sailor, Captain’s rounds were the old man wearing white gloves running his hands around crevices that never existed to make his finger brown !!!

When this world will get rid of _PM2.5 is when my rusty sheriffs badge is squeaky clean.

This isn’t just a Thailand problem. However, it is prevalent in Asia due to western countries selling carbon neutral pollution certificates to Asian countries to pulley more to keep home countries cleaner !!!

These little budding technologies will do nothing to solve this problem in Bangkok.

Get old buses, cars and motos off the road, reformulate fuel, raise emissions standards, reduce traffic in general. School children understand this.

Send a memo to each and every province governor...

clean up your act or look for alternative employment.

More the resposibility of the environmental minister, but the health minister should be citing the health aspects as recorded at hospitals nationwide from respiratory issues.

Lol

You've just advocated for an arguably unelected representative to remove an elected one??

Nobody needs spoon feeding , It’s Thailand’s problem to fix. Maybe if the set the way back machine 30-40 years into the future they can start becoming more responsible Nation for environmental purposes and much more !!

Too little and way too late. The problem will add to the decrease in tourism. Nobody really wants to vacation in filth.

"orders all agencies" - Yes!

Order the Ministry of Education to teach the causes of high pollution in Thailand and how other nations successfully suppress air pollution.

PS: it's not done with a single 20 foot sprinkler placed in downtown Bangkok as Prayut once ordered. Currently it's a fleet of drones spraying water in the air around Bangkok.

The root of the problem needs to be addressed but then that means addressing PM Prayut who has governed Thailand for the last 8 years.

But likely such scientific truths will be defamatory as to damage Thailand's national reputation (not to mention PM's reputation) and not considered "Thainess."

He can order all he likes and till the cows come home. But if they don't know how to do it without a clear cut and enforced policy it's the usual huff and puff. A lot of hot air. Polluted.????

International problems require international solutions.  China remains the world’s leading air polluter, and they’re bringing on more coal-fired energy plants.  India also contributes to air pollution in SE Asia.  And farmers in SEAsia continue to burn fields before the planting season.  One country acting alone cannot make much difference.

Who is this joker trying to fool? Is anyone going to buying into his nonsense? He has had 8 very long years to demonstrate his concern for the environment, and it has been a resounding "I don't care, leave me alone, I am too busy to fuss with little things like the air", the whole time. They have done absolutely nothing.

Is that going to change now? The air emergency is simply an inconvenience during an election year.

Are they going to go after the cane farmers? The badly maintained diesel vehicles? No. They won't. More lip service from the do nothing men.
