Gandtee
My 35 year old niece caught chikungunya over six months ago and despite continuous medication the joint pains still persists. Has anyone out there experienced this mosquito carrying disease and recovered after medication? If so,what medication did you receive?
ESLTeacher1989
Yes I have - I caught it when I was 30 years old living in Phuket town, I am now 33. Horrible disease. Felt some pain my lower back for about 1 week and then I woke up one morning and I couldn't move atoll my body was so stiff. Then I went to sit on the couch downstairs and every part of body was just THROBBING. Nasty few weeks. I had persistent joint pain for around 1-2 months, and after much rarer but still had in some places sporadically for a few more months. I took ibuprofen and paracetamol, not sure what else you can do to be honest. I'm lucky the joint pain went away although arthritis might come back when I'm older. Sheryl
A post advocating an unproven quack remedy with no possible application to chronic chikgununyga arthritis has been removed. Chikungunya arthritis is commonly treated with NSAIDs and either gabapention or pregbalin. It is sometimes necessary to use immunosuppressants (steroids or others). This needs to be managed by an experienced rheumatologist. What medicatiosn is he currently on and what type of doctor is treating him?

There is absolutely no evidence for using papaya extract for this and no reason why it would work.
