Back Specialist Bangkok

My back went out during covid due to sitting in bad chairs for prolonged period of time.

 

I put off going to the doctor because I didn't want surgery and didn't believe that they could do much of anything.

 

Now to the point where I don't think it's stretching while it helps will ever cure the problem.

 

I want my health and mobility back.

 

Anyone can recommend a proper doctor for this?

 

In the final analysis can anything be done?

 

Anyone greatly improve their back problems with stretching, crunches and other exercises?

Many things can be done but it much depends on the underlying cause. If it has  structural cause (as is likely given how long it has lasted) then often the first approach is an epidural injection. Sometimes  that alone does the trick, either permanently or with periodic re-injections (i.e. once every year or so) and it also serves a diagnostic purpose as it helps confirm that they have correctly identified the source of the pain.

 

They can also give specific orders for physical therapy based on exactly what the problem is.

 

If that does not provide pain relief, or provide relief for less than 6 months  then -- again depending on the underlying cause and also on your overall state of health - surgery might be needed but nowadays there are minimally invasive approaches that often suffice. I had minimally invasive back surgery to decompress my lumber spine a year and a half ago. 2 night in hospital, no screws or rods or fusion involved, and full relief obtained.  (In western countries it is often a day surgery).

My father was getting injections and worked a treat but said they were very painful

 

I have SSO insurance. Do you think I should perhaps go see a doctor and get an MRI at my hospital and then go see the specialist?

 

Currently taking 400mg ibuprofen daily and up to 600-800 in extreme

 

Also on rare occasion taking Diclofenac. Before I only had 50 mg tablets but now I purchased 25 mg as my friend says this is pretty harsh stuff. I really try and not take it and save it for when I'm in extreme pain

What is your SSO hospital?

 

Go easy on the ibuprofen, it is rough on the kidneys,. You might try occasional tramadal especially at night until you have seen speciualist and addressed the cause.

lose weight, strengthen your core, see a physio or similar, do Pilates, you can learn how to take care of your back better

Had a few consultations with this doctor when he was at Bumrungrad.

 

He has now moved to Thammasat University hospital, speaks good english.

I saw Dr. Wicharn at BNH and as I remember, it was something less than three thousand, but I had an x-ray, not an MRI.

Ok, so wow. Ibuprofen is sold practically by the case at Costco in US. That's too bad.

 

I don't want to touch tramadol although I've had a few spasm attacks.

 

I don't really have bed pain it's moving about. I try to exercise every day but busy and lazy.

I'm not in great shape but certainly not heavy. 183 78.5kg

 

Pretty neglegent about caring for my back I guess. I've been healthy all my life expect it to pop back.

The doctor may prescribe Lyrica and or Gabapentin which are supposed to be liver/kidney safe. These have worked very well for my neck/spine pain, and they are cheap and readily available.

Thanks good to know. I'm really reticent about meds in general.

 

A bit shocked to learn that Ibuprofen could be a problem. I thought my friend was referring to the Diclofenac he was probably referring to both but I just couldn't get my head around such a widely used medicine as being problematic.

There is a spine specialist at Vibharam and it certainly makes sense to start at your SSO hospital where it will cost you nothing. Suggest you make an appointment with:

They also have a physio department which he may refer you to as a first or second step

 

If it comes to surgery you might prefer to go elsewhere just to be assured of the very best but you are far from that, having nto yet had real physio nor an MRI.
