Daily News Thai Caption: Search party mobilized

Daily News reported that a Thai wife was lighting joss-sticks as many rescue teams mobilized in search for a French pensioner, aged 70, who went missing in the Khao E-To area of Prachinburi, central Thailand.

The wife said that her husband was into going off on his own for adventures in the wild.

He appeared to have done this while she was out eating. He had set off at about midday and had gone to the top of Khao E-to.

His Yamaha bike was found there.

The last contact with a relative was at 5 pm when the missing man said he was going for a jungle trek.

Rescue teams from many organisations and agencies were on the scene through the night coordinating several search parties.

But so far the man - named as Cheera G. (name transliterated from Thai and possibly wrong) has not been located.

He had no food or water, reported the media, something he had said in the phone call.

More on this story as we hear of it.

Do they not have search dogs in Thailand, or do the joss-sticks really work that well?

Just before nightfall is not a good time for trekking in the jungle.

1 hour & 20 minutes to trek before sunset in a treed jungle/forest.....Bad choice....

Hope he's ok...

Why can they not be content with staying in a bar all day and getting inebriated the way a waster like me does?

Maybe depression at seeing all the 50-65 year old men running off with the 70 year old desired women ? Maybe he should just try beach road night walk

This seems to have been happening a lot recently and not always old farts. They seem to take it for granted the effort, time and cost of these rescue operations. Not to mention the worry they put friends and family through.

Why can they not be content with staying in a bar all day and getting inebriated the way a waster like me does?

At what chronological point does one become an "old fart" ? I am 66.5, which is quite close to this chaps age, and if I qualify per your nomenclature then I protest most vigorously, well as vigorously as an old fart can, to being a possible candidate for said descriptor.

Nothing against a 70 year old enjoying his outdoor pursuits, but maybe he should consider a few safety tips in the future, like telling people exactly where he's going, when he's going to return, and maybe even take a mobile phone along with the location feature switched on.

Think your classification would be a young "old fart."

He had neither water nor food with him, so he was ill prepared to say the least.
