LOL. You must have missed all the tv series of her books, and a few movies. They even made a couple of new Poirot movies recently.

is this not the same kind of thing as banning books ?

i know a few ice cubs songs that might need reworded as well then. eminem also had a doozy a few years back talking about drugging and raping women. nwa in the early 90's also released 2 songs. automobile and she swallowed it.

in automobile mc ren openly speaks about having sexual activity with a 14 year old girl.

i thought all of this stuff was considered art ? the books and the songs........all of it.

what will be cancelled next ? me ? you ?

Nobody is forcing them to rewrite books. They are doing it to get better sales numbers. That is totally different from banning books. Its authors going with the times as it makes them money.

The woke brigade is at it again. Not the first time:

No its the author itself that changes things so they can make money. So complain with the writer or change how people look at things. This a commercial reason. Nothing to do with woke all with reaching a larger public and making more money. Id say the capitalists are at it again.

True enough. Death on the Nile was a moderate prestige hit.

Which means its commerciality demands that Christie be updated.

Stuff that people don't bother to make woke to milk it a little longer is simply completely forgotten. like Kipling was.

Or James Bond wasn't.

It is simply business. If they sell more books well and good but don't try to tell us it is because the originals had words and sentences that are controversial.

Now I'm no literary expert far from it but have any of the Greek classis been edited through time? The Canterbury Tales?

Or those beginning with B...e, or K....n.

That's fine. I'm reading less these days. Will give these manipulated editions a hard pass... Wonder, what the authors would say.

What's next, rewriting Hitler's "Mein Kampf", etc.? (They will have to rewrite the whole content.)

And why stop with literature? Why not repaint and paint over masterpieces of art (Rubens, Michelangelo, David, etc.), and refurbish statues early-21st-century Woke style? ("Too much nudity, too sexist, blablabla...")

It's a big difference if an author who is still alive changes books in later editions, or some random people years or decades after the author has gone...

They got the rights to the books, so its not different. They just want to sell more books. So they change things to keep the books recent. Even this could be seen as free publicity. If you feel its so bad you and other people who hate these changes should have bought more books so you could have a say. ITs a commercial decision nothing dictated by woke people. Just people who want to be more inclusive so they sell more books.

Shows your probably a minority in this, im sure they have done their market research. Its all about money.

And, "Do you have a reservation?" at restaurants will be frowned upon, as, well, you never know, one or two guests once in a while could be Native Americans...

Yes, it's all about the $$$$...

As for me, I read a lot of old books as a child (e.g. from the 1920s about colonialism, other parts of the world, etc.), and while my view on the world was sometimes 180 degrees apart from that of the authors, I still enjoyed seeing the different viewpoint of people in the past, and how they thought 'back then'.

Or imagine popular TV shows without cursing, or racist depictions (just think of GoT). They would be boring, and, possibly, would have had less viewers.

Obviously people think your wrong about less viewers as less viewers is less money. So i doubt your right.

There is a difference between changing works of fiction and historical books. Personally i dont need any racism at all. Seems your overthinking things. Anyway IMHO its up to the owner of the rights to do as they please. Its not as if you can't get old versions to enjoy your views.

Seems like the Woke crowd want to force their views on everyone else, while loudly screaming if your opinion differs from theirs...

Can you imagine this cranky crowd emptying a library, reading all the books to find something in their opinion dodgy, to get it reprinted....

It is totally bizarre..........

Don't tell the Woke crowd where the libraries are, or they will burn a large part of the books there, like the Nazis did in the 1930s...

Mind blown.

But seriously, why isn't this book in school libraries?

If Trans people get to have their day in the sun, what about S+M perverts?

LOL. That post reminds me of when I was in Saudi, as they must of had a small army of censors using a black felt tip pen to cover up any bare arms or hair in pictures of women in foreign magazines before they went on sale.

I laughed like a drain when I bought a tape of a western singer that included a song about Crusaders winning a battle. They missed that one!

Same Same. I remember buying a CD of Dire Straits, Alchemy in Tabuk. It was 90% blacked out.

After 2300 the Saudis put the Porn channels on the Compound TV System.

Kipling "the Ladies" definitely needs a rewrite.

Dirty old misogynist/racist/colonial ..........

"Now I aren't no 'and with the ladies,
  For, takin' 'em all along,
You never can say till you've tried 'em,
An' then you are like to be wrong.
There's times when you'll think that you mightn't,
  There's times when you'll know that you might;
But the things you will learn from the Yellow an' Brown,
They'll 'elp you a lot with the White!"

As silly as "Presentism" is, I will really worry when the "tough on crime" crowd wants to arrest people like Christie for accessory to murder, as she knew even before the crime who did it.
