Which will all stall later after the votes are cast.

So many problems , so few solutions ... a  master plan to solve all ? Yes , but who will tell them what to do , at what time and where ?

Talk is cheap .

They shut down the economy due to covid. But, burning cane is ok. Can't they see the effect it is having on the air? Do they care one iota? Don't the leaders live here too? Why are they MIA? Why don't the "do nothing guys" do something for a change?

When the crop burning starts to kill the population, and lowers the quality of life for those of us who don't die, isn't it time to take action? We just don't need the sugar. Shut down this toxic, heinous industry. Lock up the farmers. Sieze their land. Do whatever it takes.

This is not just the governor's issue. A heavy part of this burden falls on the tiny shoulders of Cha Cha. He has been nearly criminal in his extreme malfeasance of this issue. His grade on air issues is an F. Let's see if a new PM and administration can and will do anything. And let's hope Cha Cha is ousted soon, so the nation can start some forward momentum, and stop the alarming backwards slide.

No guarantees. But change is required. Fear of change and not knowing what it will bring does not justify a lethargic regime and the damage they cause.

Dr. Plodprasop Suraswadi, of the Pheu Thai Party, said they have developed action plans to deal with environmental problems, with one for air pollution

"The solution is a simple one indeed, it is an adaptation of my Nobel Prize worthy flooding remedy: A thousand boat propellers pointed at the sky will push the pollution past the stratosphere."

Plodprasop, glad to have you back!!!

They're not really promising anything. They're just saying "there must be a plan . . ." Whatever that is.

The problem is not only the politicians, but also the people, a large part of the population, which does not care:

This from your link. When somebody says they don't want to enforce the law because it would hurt the "poor farmers," what they really mean is the large agri business concerns whose names we probably cannot mention.

The real problem, she argues, is contract farming. Smallholder farmers, who dominate in Thailand, enter contracts with large companies, which sell them seeds and fertilisers, and commit to buying the crops. This pressures the farmers to maximise output. With no capital to invest in modern harvesters, field burning is the easiest method to increase productivity.

Great article. At least they state the truth. It is field burning and predatory agricultural practices, more than wildfires, that is to blame.

And the army won't touch the giant growers. Perhaps a more creative and far more drastic approach would work?
