Daily Covid-19 cases in Bangkok spike

Bangkok‘s daily number of Covid-19 cases has experienced a significant spike, nearly doubling from 400 to 700 in the wake of the city’s recent Songkran festival. This has led to growing concerns among local authorities, who fear that the true extent of the situation might not yet be fully understood.

The deputy City Clerk at the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Dr. Wantanee Watana, has warned that the situation may deteriorate further, with some cases potentially not having been reported to the relevant authorities, or still being in the process of being recorded. This could result in the daily number of Covid-19 cases in the Thai capital rising even further to approximately 1,000 cases per day.

Despite the alarming surge in the quantity of reported cases, Dr. Wantanee has urged the public not to panic over the sudden resurgence of infections. She stated that the majority of new cases appear to involve older sub-variants of the virus rather than the emerging Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16, which has registered 27 reported instances so far. Therefore, this issue should not be a cause for immediate concern.

BMA: Thousands Catching Covid In Bangkok Everyday
by TNR Staff

BANGKOK Metropolitan Administration (BMA) said today (Apr. 22) that a post-Songkran festival Covid spike has led to the number of in-patients in the capital jumping from around 300-400 cases day to maximum 700 and if those who are infected but have not reported their condition to the monitoring system are added it is likely thousands are getting infected everyday, TV Channel 7 said.

However Dr. Wantanee Wattana, BMA’s deputy permanent secretary, urged the public to not panic because the new Omicron subvariant XBB. 1.16, which may cause conjunctivitis – red and itchy eyes, especially in babies and young children, has not started spreading with those who fall sick catching the previous variants.

She urged people at risk and those in the vulnerable groups, among whom are people over 60 years of age and those who have congenital diseases, to stay safe and if they have not been vaccinated for four to six months then they should get another jab.

Does the deputy City Clerk at the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Dr. Wantanee Watana know the first thing about immunological science? What is his specialty?

First he stated there is a huge spike and then he says calm down, there is no real worry.

I believe calm down and there is no worry is the correct attitude to take. This virus continues to morph into the flu, and life goes on.

Sends out an unjustified fear mongering notice and asks the public not to panic. I thought the majority are vaxxed on what we were told was a 95 percent effective vaccine. Or is this just to look important. Get on with life.

I caught Omicron coming back from Bangkok to Sydney then on to NZ but I think the Sydney- Chc leg. Was not as bad as I expected with my first case. Think Omicron not as bad as older variants. When In Bk most People except Western Farang were wearing masks

The virus does not morph into the flu but mutates like the flu. But it seems unlike the flu mutations that occur generally on an annual period the covid subvariants seem to appear in a much shorter time.

Latest Omicron subvariant is now at XBB.1.5 in some developed countries like the US. It is more infectionous but effects are much the same.

Air pollution, Covid and sun protection.

Just another of the continuing attempts to scare the public into masking up to remind the people that they are still slaves. Even 1000 cases per day in a city population of 11 million is only .0000909% of the population. That many people are catching the flu every day, and nobody's worried about that! It borders on insanity!!!!!!

Pattaya is at least same bad. Let's give back Covid to the many Chinese tourists to bring it back home where it came from!

U don't get it. It's not 500 or 1000 per day. And that is for a city like BKK a big big number! Every of them is infecting how many if he remains in the public? 5 or 10 per day? Sit down and do the maths before u put out your stayements. First day 1 is infecting 5. Second day it's 25, already on the third day 125 ln the fourth day 625 infected thru only one case. U think 500 is a small number?

As long as it is only an lld variant it's not so bad coz we are well protected. But the more cases the higher the chance for badass new mutations.

Among them, just one single mutation, that is a new bad one, is enough to cause a huge problem once again.

And they are no mandatory checks. It will be tenthousands if everyone had to check. Who is reporting a covid case today? Only those who go hospital because severe complications. I have now and had a few months ago Covid but not going anywhere and not being counted. Besides that most people do not even selfcheck anymore becz they din't want to know. They are tired.

Agreed. Tourists have no clue about PM2.5 and transmissions. So collect it.

The virus is counting?? Not more than 700 a day and the rest we will infect tomorrow??

Since when has 400-700 a day been 'thousands'.

It looks a lot more like 'a few hundred' to me.
