Popular Post Goodboybkk
Dear all, Why can't a student visa holder from UK, US, Australia, etc legally work? It seems to me that it is blatantly unfair that Thai students in UK, US, and Australia can work legally. Furthermore, they can apply post-study visa which allows them to stay and work unlimited hours legally for even several years. Popular Post FritsSikkink
If you want to work you get a non B visa and a work permit, this doesn't stop you from studying as well. A student visa is for studying.
wprime
Because western countries need extra unskilled labour. Thailand does not. 1
connda
Because you need a work visa. If you have a job, change to a Business Visa and keep going to school.
Popular Post mikebike
Because every sovereign country can make their own laws. Comparing with what other countries do is a pointless waste of time. 2 1
Pattaya57
OP might as well ask why is the drinking age 20 in Thailand but 18 in Aus. Their country, their rules, not hard to understand 1

This was designed by those countries as a bribe to get the students to pay the exorbitant fees for those expensive countries. The UK has become a great deal less generous to foreign students in recent years.
Callmeishmael
Actually, foreign students in the US have limitations on how much and where they can work. They can work on campus for no more than 20 hours per week.

Jack1988
People here still haven't understood that we are only farangs in this country. We have no rights here
digbeth
students from Thailand pay tuition way over what the locals are paying in Australia or UK, are we moaning about dual pricing there too? What are most Farangs studying in Thailand that's so in demand? Thai language? I'm sure there are a few studying decent things in International university here but those would have no problem affording their stay without working and can get a job with work permit at the end of their study should they so choose, yes, part of the appeal for Thai students to study abroad in western country is being able to work and get jobs/connection and chance at permanent residency and eventually citizenship How many here and those using student visa as means to legally stay in Thailand really wants Thai nationality in the end?

NanLaew
A foreigner can safely be a 'remote' worker while in Thailand on a non-immigrant ED visa. Just don't make a big deal about it. IMHO, that's better than flipping burgers.

Captain Monday
The cost of living is a pittance compared to Western countries and most jobs students would be doing part time on campus and service industries are reserved Thai only. What did I do? Lets see deliver pizzas, work in restaurants, student assistant in ESL program, tutoring, and landscape maintenance. What is blatantly unfair is the nightmare Thais must endure to get a US visitor visa. Then to see Americans come here visa exempt behave badly sometimes, work illegally, even beg in the street to fund their travel. Many bring criminal records and bad habits
sidneybear
I've always thought that the best way to learn something is to teach it, so I taught while on my student visa. That was a very long time ago though, in my backpacking days.
