At approximately 5.30pm on Thursday 5th July, a violent tropical rainstorm hit Pattaya with torrential rain and sudden strong winds.

This caused many areas in Pattaya to be flooded, stopping the flow of traffic on Pattaya’s main roads. Other than that the storm caused a lot of damage to many locations in Pattaya. A wall in Soi 9 fell onto a rider who was driving past on his motorbike and was badly injured.

For more than a kilometer along Thappraya Road – from Pratamnak Hill onwards to Jomtien Beach the storm ripped tress from their roots with broken branches all over the roads.

Advertisement signs along the roads were torn down and blew off with the fierce wind hitting frightened people trying to reach shelter. Signs fell onto passing vehicles and caused even more traffic chaos. However, after the wind calmed down, there were still no rescuers or authorities out to inspect the locations or assist the residents and tourists that were affected by this natural disaster which lasted until about 6.30pm, leaving Pattaya a battered city.
