Another coffee shop near my hotel bites the dust.

Just see another well known Thai brand coffee shop packing all there gear into a pick up not far from my expensive hotel.

I had coffee there a couple of times ,  however I stopped going there because they treat farang like crap .... there's no smile, no thank you, no is there anything else I can get you,  I ordered hot latte and it came out warm .... just warm ....  when I tried to explain to the silly girl she just gave me that stupid Thai ' I'm Thai and I don't care attitude "   haha ...Well, I'm glad another went bust,   because they haven't got a clue about customer service or how to run a business ....

Coffee shops serve warm coffee and not boiling hot coffee because cups of boing coffee take time to cool down and that causes customers to sit around for longer and less business for the shop .

   You go to coffee shops for a coffee , you don't get a guaranteed smile with your coffee and staff shouldn't be forced to smile at customers

OP Why do you have to mention 'my expensive hotel'.  I would have thought my hotel would suffice.

I just want you to know it's not a cheap place ... it has fountains and marble ... but no coffee

And that is exactly why I have never understood the Starbucks model, where their places are often designed to make you linger in their comfortable seating etc. Makes no economic sense at all - except that it does as they have become a global brand.

Mac ,  it's not just getting a warm coffee when the menu clearly states ' hot latte '    it's also the attitude of staff,  it's also that they can't speak english,  it's also about being polite and warm to customers.  No wonder they are out ...    imo

Some coffee isn't meant to be really hot. Instant black coffee you can have as hot as you like. Make an espresso based latte and it's best if it is not boiling hot. That's my opinion anyway but that's also the opinion of a lot of baristas. (Look it up on YouTube or Google).

 

That aside, I hate poor service wherever it is. I do the same as you, Steven, I just don't return. If the first time is poor, I'll likely go back another time to give them a chance (everyone has a bad day) but if the service (or coffee) is poor again, I won't go back.

Indeed, but if you prefer a lukewarm coffee then you allow it to cool. But a tepid coffee isn't going to warm itself up.

why should I ?   they have a business that farang go for coffee ....  not every tourist will speak Thai.  They are in a service industry, they should speak english . imo   otherwise fail ....   which is what happened.

Yeah, and why eat at restaurants when you can eat at home? And why stay at hotels when you can sleep at home? And why take the bus when you can just drive yourself? And why have the kids in a nursery school when you can take care of them yourself? And why go to a doctor when you can just Google the symptoms and self-medicate?

Well they just need to get their priorities right! You might want to consider moving to a backpackers guest house where they employ their own barista.

It seems too many people think it's easy to open and run a coffee shop.

It's not. And they have to sell a lot of coffee to make money.

And there is no such thing as cheap good coffee.

They can sell cheap and bad coffee.

Or expensive and hopefully good coffee.

I think there are more than enough cheap and bad places so I would be surprised if any new places can get away with that.

And it seems there is a limited number of people who are willing to pay >100B for a good coffee.

Tinned coffee, 15 baht, pour into cup, microwave 1 minute. Cheaper and IMO better than most shops.

The OP's hotel can't be that upmarket if it has no coffee available on the premises. Even 3-star hotels have a kettle, plus packet coffee, creamer and sugar.

Someone hired these people. And probably they were not ready to pay more money for better staff. You get what you pay for.

If I go to a restaurant, I expect better food than at home.  It seems luke warm coffee in coffee shops is the norm.  No thanks.  I'll never catch a bus in Thailand, driving is much better.
