Durham report finds FBI probe into Trump-Russia ties was flawed

Featured Replies

A long-awaited report has strongly criticised the FBI's handling of its investigation into alleged ties between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign.

In a 306-page report, special counsel John Durham said the agency's inquiry had lacked "analytical rigor".

He concluded the FBI had not possessed "actual evidence" of collusion between Donald Trump's campaign and Russia before launching an inquiry.

The FBI said it had addressed the issues highlighted in the report.

In the report, Mr Durham - who was appointed by then-Attorney General William Barr in 2019 - accused the FBI of acting on "raw, unanalysed and uncorroborated intelligence".

Among the investigative mistakes it made were repeated instances of "confirmation bias", in which it ignored information that undercut the initial premise of the investigation.

Ahh nooo the Durham probe was a complete failure they were trying to prove malfeasance on the part of law enforcement investigations into trump’s Russian collusion it was another republican flop at 6.5 million $ squandered another words the trump collusion is not disproved

After 4 years it tells us things we all ready know.  So lets hope Mr. Trump gets a copy.

I'm waiting for the "Bill Barr Approved, Condensed Version".

Durham brought three cases, he lost two. The one he won, was for an FBI lawyer who altered an email to get search warrant. He got probabtion+community service.

Kudos to AG Garland for letting "Bull" Duham have all the time he needed to finish his "investigation".

I do feel for all those here who were predicting catacylsmic charges in this, "biggest political scandal of all time". They anxiously awaited each step Durham took. Then, whimper. Off enjoying another Nothing-Burger.

He doesn't need a copy.     He's perfectly capable of just making things up as he always does.

He managed to tell over 30,000 verifiable lies during his four year administration.

The man doesn't grasp the  truth if it smacks him up along the side of his yellow head.

Ahh Durhams case failed he didn’t prove malfeasance on the part of the doj or the f.b.I.it was a fail

It tells us there was no ‘Deep-State’ plot against Trump.

So yes, let’s hope Trump does get a copy.

Maybe all the Durham fanbois can have a good cry, get it out of your system and move on.

Plenty of other "conspiracies" to prattle on about.

Of course we already know. There's nothing significant in this report that the Justice Dept. Inspector General didn't already uncover and report on.  That's the report that Durham announced he disagreed with while he was pursuing his investigation. Attorney General William Barr alleged the same thing.. He believed, like Barr, that the Justice Dept had political motives for investigating the Russian connection. Like the Inspector General, Durham found nothing to confirm this. In fact, the only 2 cases his team developed and brought to trial were against defendants who Durham claimed lied to the FBI. In other words, according to Durham, FBI agents were victims not perpetrators. Does it need to be mentioned again that he lost both cases? That the only conviction he secured was based entirely on evidence gathered by the Justice Dept. Inspector General? That's the same person whose report Durham and Barr publicly cast doubt on.

And it should be noted, that unlike Barr, who lied about Mueller's report and was castigated by the judge for doing that, Merrick Garland let this report be released in its entirety and without making any comment on it, much less lie about it.

They were all so anxious for criminal convictions but got nothing. Major disappointment for the Maga Republicans hanging on for 4 years to try exonerate Trump.

No. That's not the case. This report only addresses the FBI and regular DOJ investigation. The report that addresses that issue is the Mueller report. And that report found that if Trump were not President he could be prosecuted on 10 counts including obstruction of justice in the case of the Russia investigation. And, as it turns out, he pardoned those who might have been in a position to incriminate him.

Republican opinions in the report that oddly look a lot like the Republican accusations that promoted the report in the first place.

Meanwhile zero ‘Deep State’ plot against Trump and no crimes discovered.

This Republican accusation of ‘confirmation bias’ looks a lot like a confession.

First off, it was the Inspector General of the Justice Dept who developed the case against Clinesmith. Not Durham. He turned the package of evidence over to Durham. And Clinesmith was what's called a line lawyer, the lowest rung on the attorney hierarchy in the Justice Dept.

And, no, he didn't change emails. He changed one email. And that was to spare himself some effort. As the judge noted:

“My view of the evidence is that Mr. Clinesmith likely believed that what he said about Mr. Page was true,” Boasberg said. “By altering the email, he was saving himself some work and taking an inappropriate shortcut.”

On evidence developed by the Inspector General of the Justice Dept. (And it's Clinesmith.) And the charge was about as minor as a felony can be.

Again, big threats with promises of retribution.  And what is the payoff?  A hacked email of minor consequence.

Like their intense voter fraud investigations, they turn up some incel who voted on his dead mother's ballot -- for DT.

And these are the fascists masterminds who are going to control the country?

I grew up fearing nuclear attacks .In the 50’s and  60’s we had air raid drills in school!

I was visiting Fla  at the time of the Cuban / Russian missile crisis , we had to cut our holiday short and drive back to our home a thousand miles away.

My point is Trump was the first person that I can ever recall saying ,Cant we get along with Russia !

It made sense than and it makes sense now! No wars and getting along to get along is my preference!

Did you experience fear of a nuke attack in your country?

Another example of Trump weaponizing the DOJ against his perceived enemies.

Same as with Trump's first probe by DOJ watchdog Horowitz who said FBI’s conduct in Trump-Russia probe doesn’t ‘vindicate anybody'.

The Steele Dossier did not predicate the Mueller Report.

It was Australian diplomat Downer when he reported to the FBI, a conversation with Papadopoulos a Trump campaigner about a predicted Russian release of information which would assist Trump's election.

Trump is actually seen on video asking Russia for help in the election.

Barr misrepresented Mueller's finding of evidence of collusion, and obstruction by Trump.

Last year, Manafort Trump's Campaign Manager admitted that he did collude with Russia.

I suspect this post will be deleted, too, despite the fact it is directly related to Durham.

I know several people who were drilled by Durham and his people. Incidentally they all had to hire lawyers, though most have personal liability insurance because of the positions they hold/held. None are FBI, all are agency. To a person they said Durham was goal seeking. He had zero interest in the evidence of actual collusion, but merely went searching for un-dotted "i"s and uncrossed "t"s, so that he could hang his hat and expense on something or anything.

When actual evidence was revealed in intel reports (such as manafort's meeting with kilimnik, or stone and Wikileaks), the response was "That's manafort...or stone, not trump", as if trump didn't know.

"Hey, I just hired paul as my Campaign Manager...anybody know where he is?"  Nonsense.

Note that Durham found nothing untoward in the agency, and even praised Brennan's handling of the matter.

Perhaps in time these interview subjects will come out and expose the facts about Durham. Maybe there will be an investigation of the investigators of the investigators, kind of a 3rd derivative.

I to grew up with that threat always lurking in the back of my mind, the photo is of trumps first day in office we’re he hosted the russans in the oval WITHOUT any USA representatives then he trotted down to Langley and trolled the CIA and the country in front of the wall of stars (representing the patriots that died protecting us) my point being is trump is a fraud and a conn with all due respect you are mistaken in placing your trust in him he’s proven himself un worthy many times over this particular incident is just more proof of that.ideally the Russians people would get a decent government so they could reach their potential and live peacefully with their neighbors
