Chuwit Inspires 27 Million Voices Against Senators: Urges Not to Obstruct National Progress

Chuwit Kamolvisit, a notable ex-politician and businessman, recently published a compelling article on Facebook titled "Elderly Senators, Turn off Your Own Switch."

 

In it, he strongly criticizes senators who, despite receiving their salaries from public taxes, prioritize the interests of the individual who appointed them, essentially forming a 'gang of senators' that undermines the voice of the people, reported Naew Na.

 

Chuwit expressed criticism towards those who suggest that the opposition party, Move Forward, needs to gain more experience before taking the reins, labeling them as 'too young.'

 

He challenged this argument, pointing out that these concerns should have been voiced prior to the elections, rather than conveniently surfacing after the results were declared.

 

He also questioned the competency of these elder senators, brought into power by their 'two uncles'. Do the people ever get a say in their appointment?

 

When they choose to dismiss the true mandate of the people, represented by 27 million votes, and consider the power of 250 senators as superior, it raises a serious issue.

 

By abstaining from voting in the Prime Minister's election when the parliament proposes the name of Move Forward's leader, they reveal themselves as a 'hindrance to the country', contravening their constitutional duty to elect the Prime Minister.

 

Chuwit argued that if these senators truly had a valid standpoint, they should press the 'disagree' button without hesitation. He likened them to 'crocodiles blocking the canal', obstructing progress.

 

Some senators, who formerly served in NGOs or as teachers, appear to disregard the voice of the people once they become appointed senators.

 

He also highlighted that the 'two uncles' who facilitated these senators into their current positions have already lost their credibility.

 

With the 'power-loving' faction managing to secure only 190 votes, it becomes impossible for them to pass any legislation or form a minority government.

 

Chuwit posed a question - should the people rise and demonstrate who holds more power: the 27 million citizens or the 250 appointed senators? The challenge is now open.

My goodness, I was recently beginning to just get annoyed by Chuwit's continuous theatrical bleating & showboating, but what he says here cancels that annoyance out at a stroke, and my regard for him has now (for the moment anyway!) U-turned upward immeasurably.

 

Whatever else he is, he is a man of influence and lots of media exposure. His message is the most vitally important, much-needed thing to be said at this time.

 

Right now, I'd even buy him a beer. Maybe two even. ????????

It is encouraging to see that the old establishment of cronyism is being called out and a new generation of people keen for change is taking place in the Kingdom. Hopefully this builds into momentum that gets to a point where having expensive watches or unexplained wealth can't be dismissed with silence or condescending replies.

 

Here's to Thailand's future one small step in the right direction at a time.

After 20 something coups and 30+ year of watching Thai politics, the populist present elected government is as always subject to the whims of the military elite, who WILL step in, if they feel their power is diluted or the elected government doesn't serve their needs.

 

The only thing that has changed now that was never present in the past is, that we now have second by second social media coverage which is very powerful!

 

Does it have the power to limit bad actors, or is it going to be the same, the people with the guns can still run the people with the social media?

In your rushed and impulsive need to support the junta, you have perhaps locked in on a too narrow a definition of inspire. Inspire also means to motivate and influence - in this case, by speaking up loudly and publicly, Chuwit is doing both and setting an example for a population that has been too long cowered by these greedy old fools.

Most who voted for MoveForward probably think this guy is part of the problem.

 

With this endeavor it seems like he's jumping on a train late. That's never a good look.

 

IMO, he's just trying to remain relevant and remain in the pbulic eye because, well, he's vain.

 

He should move back to whistleblowing, police corruption.
