A former Royal Thai Navy (RTN) sailor suffered a serious injury after accidentally shooting himself while playing with a gun in a rental room in the Isaan province of Burriam.

The sailor, Phattarapong Kongkird, was found by his girlfriend last night. She arrived home to discover her 41 year old boyfriend lying unconscious in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to his left leg. The woman immediately notified officers from Na Pho Police Station who rushed to the scene.

According to the police report, Phattarapong was lying on his bed with a severe injury. The bullet struck a major artery, resulting in significant blood loss. A 9mm gun, a bullet shell, and three bottles of beer were found near his body.

The owner of the rental room, 77 year old Udom Tarttaisong, revealed that Phattarapong’s girlfriend had been renting the room for close to seven years.

Guns are NOT toys to be "played" with.

They have one role in life which is to kill or injure.

I have no sympathy.

Mixed with beer, idiot shot himself.

Safety first, make sure one isn't up the spout.

Two times I've dealt with idiots and firearms.

One was with a friend on a boar hunting trip in Germany, my friend was put up in a high seat, we were walking 500 yards further to the next one. Took about 10 steps and he fired, we turned around stunned that he'd shot already... what's going on we shouted, he'd blown a hole through the hide roof!

He was asked to come down and go wait at the guest house.

He didn't shoot again that week.

Second one was my own brother, out rabbiting once with me he wanted a go, I gave him my .22 and told him exactly what to do, after a safety talk.

Upon reaching a gate he turned around to face me pointing the rifle up my nose, I pushed the barrel away and chastised him, he said it's not loaded, but my right hand was.

He never did that again.
