On May 18, in the bustling Star Night Plaza market, located in the heart of Rayong city, chaos erupted. A gas cylinder explosion started from a fried chicken stall, spreading flames wildly, prompting vendors and customers alike to flee in a state of panic.

The Rayong Municipal Fire Unit was immediately notified and dispatched four fire trucks to manage the situation. Upon arrival, amidst a wave of fleeing vendors and local residents, black smoke was observed billowing into the sky. Firefighters rapidly tackled the blaze, managing to extinguish the fire in about 15 minutes, reported Daily News.

The fire originated from a fried chicken stall and eight gas cylinders, all scorched black from the flames, were safely removed by the firefighters. A total of eight stalls were consumed by the fire. Miraculously, there were no reported injuries or fatalities.

Mr. Pa Toon, a 37-year-old Cambodian worker at the fried chicken stall, recounted the terrifying moments leading to the explosion. He explained that he was detaching the cylinder when its top unexpectedly came off.

This accident led to a rapid ignition of a fire that touched the oil in the frying pan which was currently being used to fry fish. The flames quickly reached the stall's canvas roof, which then spread uncontrollably. Seeing the fire growing beyond control, Mr. Toon, along with the other vendors and shoppers, made a run for it.

Shortly after, they heard an explosion followed by violent outbursts of fire and smoke. The fire brigade was then promptly notified.

Mr. Suthep Charoensrungroengchai, a 56-year-old vendor of a salad stall located opposite the incident, narrated his alarming experience. He was setting up his shop when he heard a loud noise.

On turning around, he saw flames shooting out from the gas cylinder line and immediately alerted everyone to flee the area before the cylinder exploded.

Initial investigations are being carried out by the police, who are working in coordination with the Forensic Science Division to determine the cause of the incident. A detailed examination to assess the damage caused by the fire is also underway.

Gas bottles do not just explode, even when flames are bursting out, only when left in a fire, will they explode, always position the bottle so you can come from behind and turn it off.

It sounds like he unscrewed the complete valve... nothing to left to turn-off.

Gas bottles may as well explode if they are used with a non compatible device. Example: LPG Gas with a Burner for Natural Gas.

I just imported a high pressure Wok-Burner from China. Since Thailand uses for outdoor Grills/Burners only LPG Gas I had to look a little bit deeper into the matter to avoid an incident like the one described. Incredible that nobody was even hurt or even killed.

You won't catch anyone cooking on gas in Isaan............. too expensive............they are all making charcoal from the wood they steal...............the air is never going to clear.

Coconut Shells are popular, too. Of course this goes up in smoke as well ....... And the air willl never be completely clean - season or not. Because there is alway garbage to burn - the whole year long.

I reckon there is only money, glass and concrete that they don't try to burn......everything else is up for grabs.

They don't steal the wood, they forage for it as they have done for many generations.

And the air quality up in the north east is just fine thank you.

You need to get a grip.

All the wood here is stolen from government land.....I've seen people stopped by the police it is so endemic.
