Seriously? So, Brits are no foreigners in the U.S., and Indians no foreigners in China?

Do they use "farang" in the US or China?  We're talking about Thailand.

Yes, but even the Chinese are usually the 'Chin', often called "stingy"... But I agree that the Chinese, overall, enjoy a favoured and often privileged position in Thailand, unlike, for example, the "poor" (or even "dirty") people from neighbouring countries (Laos, Cambodia). And even some well-educated Thais like to call people from Myanmar "dangerous" or "thieves"...

Sounds like a thug.  Hopefully, he'll be caught.

And punished and deported.

Why isn't the Chinese identified as a foreigner as well?

Because it would be redundant.

Well he looks fairly distinctive with his build + his uniform so the answer is probably, 'no he won't be caught.'  We're talking Pattaya police here who can't find their own orifices.

Why are people arguing over calling him Chinese and the other guy foreign.?

They know the victim is Chinese so they say that, they don't know the nationality of the attacker so they call him foreign. It ain't a conspiracy to keep down whitey or something.

How do you know "the foreigner" isn't a Thai citizen?  There is at least one constant poster to this forum, originally from Scotland, who is always reminding us he is a Thai citizen. Looks like a lot in this story is completely unknown: an out of context video with a guy mostly just standing over another guy on the sidewalk. The rest is hearsay and conjecture.

Beating a person who is on the ground apologizing and not fighting back should be a crime and the attacker should be banned from Thailand.

Just looking to argue.....?

The 'Westerner' is very unlikely to be a Thai Citizen, and even his Thai girlfriend referred to him as a foreigner. Nowhere in the report, nor linked Thaiger report do they refer to him as anything but farang or foreigner. Most news reports are hearsay and conjecture... your presumption of him being a Thai citizen a good example.
