SA KAEO-- A harrowing event unfolded on Sa Kaeo-Chanthaburi Road, route 317, which was captured on a dashcam and subsequently shared on Facebook by Wachira Sutharos, a teacher from Ban Phra Ploeng School, Sa Kaeo province.

The footage showed a student from Wang Nam Yen school narrowly avoiding a collision with a pickup truck while darting across the busy highway, reported 77kaoded.

The incident occurred in front of Wang Nam Yen School, Sa Kaeo, as Wachira was driving home. The terrifying footage shows the boy sprinting across the road, oblivious to the oncoming traffic.

As he reached the path of a white Isuzu pickup, the truck blared its horn, causing the boy to leap back, trip, and fall onto the road. Fortunately, no vehicles were in the following lane and the boy managed to get up and run to the central median.

Wachira shared the video to serve as a cautionary tale for students to be more careful while crossing roads. He emphasized the gravity of the near-miss situation that could have resulted in a tragic incident had he not slowed his vehicle in front of the school.

Despite the absence of traffic calming measures or crossing points, the driver of the Isuzu pickup, license plate number BOT-1502, Sa Kaeo, stopped to check on the boy and warned him about road safety.

However, the lack of safety measures around the school has been a longstanding concern. There have been several calls for the construction of overhead bridges, significant traffic lights, speed bumps, and road surface warnings to reduce vehicle speed when passing schools.

Unfortunately, these calls have not yet been heeded by the relevant authorities. The straight path of route 317 encourages high speeds, resulting in frequent accidents.

Police Colonel Chanonphat Sirilert, Superintendent of Wang Nam Yen Police Station, acknowledged the concerns raised in the viral video.

Despite previous advice for traffic calming in hazardous areas and discussions with local agencies, effective action has not yet been taken.

As the road lacks speed calming points, only temporary cones can be placed during school hours, raising significant concerns about the safety of students and local communities.

When I was 5 years old, we learned this little ditty, stayed with me for life!

Look to the right and look to the left

when you cross on the busy street,

Cars and bicycles, busses and trucks

any of these you may meet

So, look to the right and look to the left

when you cross on the busy street!

nice.

did you grow up and attend school beside an essentuilly un-moniored highway in a developing country with lax traffic law enforcement?

With no pedestrian bridge and no crosswalk or traffic signal, what choice do students have other than to run across the road and hope for the best?

if you look at the video the boy was on the median and just nonchalantly walked out in front of it.  He finally must have realized he wasn't going to make it and jumped back towards the median.

But, you are trying to use logic and common sense???? Have you forgotten where we are? ????

And, as we are where we are, you do that even on a one-way street.

I wonder how many posters with advice for the students come from a country where towns are cut in half by 90 km/h four lane highways?

How many come from countries where "15 mph" is what you drive passing a school?

How many tried to cross Sukhumvit in Pattaya running like a rabbit?

Who allowed to build a school near a highway without any traffic solutions?

I see on the 3311, the route over the mountains from Korat to Chachoengsao, many schools have been built lately.
But no real thinking of the traffic department how to make them safe for the students.
Just a speed limit sign of 50km/hr in a 3 lane highway.
What is the highest degree from these morons at the traffic department?
I remember a few years ago the solution one of them had found against speeding traffic.
Make carton police officers and place them anywhere.
What a complete moron.
