Strange story... who is travelling with 700k in his wallet and a lot of jewellery.. He doesn't have a bankaccount? It is never possible to prove how much cash you have on you and he has to prove it indeed . It is inviting thieves as they see it.. Besides a hotel with secret doors for the mistresses.. sounds almost like a fairytale..But everything is possible in Thailand.

700k total value (including amulets) but just 7,000 in cash, according to the article.

Edit: the 7,000 cash was from another room. The amount of cash from the first room isn't stated - just total assets 710,000.

The secret and suspicious doors were discovered inside the room. The hotel owner claimed that the doors were an escape route for mistresses.

From the linked article, "

The doors were completed with locks on the outer side as well.

The victims insisted that the hotel did not inform them about the secret doors during check-in. The hotel owner claimed that he installed secret doors for mistresses to escape from their lovers’ partners."

So the doors were locked from the outside but were to allow people on the inside to escape.  Makes sense.  To the police anyway.

... with that kind of money he could picked a descent hotel.

The interior looks like a 450 baht "Love Hotel" from the 90's.

Just the usual five year-old child type excuses that Thais come up with.
