webfact Posted June 19, 2023 Share Posted June 19, 2023 On June 19, 2023, Police Lieutenant General Charoenpong Kandhilo, Commissioner of Pathum Thani Provincial Police, held a press conference to announce the arrest of a foreign national in accordance with the policy set by Police General Suwat Jangyodsuk, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police. The press conference aimed to emphasize the intensified efforts of the police force, along with their affiliated officers, in inspecting foreigners who have overstayed their permitted duration (overstay) and using X-ray technology to detect undocumented foreign workers who continuously evade law enforcement. Picture: Siam Rath The apprehended individual, identified as Mr. Satya (pseudonym), a 52-year-old Turkish national, was found to be residing illegally in Thailand beyond the authorized period. After receiving information about the presence of undocumented foreigners in the country, the authorities closely monitored the situation until they obtained clear evidence, reported Siam Rath. Subsequently, they approached and requested to inspect his travel documents, which revealed that he had entered Thailand through Suvarnabhumi Airport and initially requested permission to stay for tourism purposes until January 21, 2023. However, he had been surreptitiously residing in the country for an additional 148 days beyond the granted period before being apprehended. Picture: Siam Rath The aforementioned actions constitute a violation of the offense of "foreigners residing within the Kingdom without permission" under the Immigration Act of 1979. Consequently, authorities handed over Mr. Satya to investigators to undergo additional legal procedures. Furthermore, his actions will incur a five-year ban on his reentry into Thailand, beginning from the date of his departure, as outlined in the Ministerial Regulation No. 1/2015 issued by the Thai Prime Minister's Office. This regulation prohibits specific categories of foreigners from entering the Kingdom.
