Exiting Thailand with New Passport

Featured Replies

Just received a new passport from VFS in Bangkok and plan to leave Thailand for a while this week.

I'm on a TR visa which has been extended 30 days. Can I just hand in both passports when I leave and they will put the exit stamp in the new one?

Assuming that's the case since I don't have a visa to transfer but haven't been able to find a clear cut answer.

Haven't quite decided if I will fly out of Bangkok or exit at Nong Khai if that makes a difference

You can leave by air or by land. The process of linking your new passport back to the old one, and transferring a couple of stamps will go faster at the airport.

It's advisable to carry both passports for awhile with you, in some cases airport agents may go extremes checking entry requirements, for example a family member of mine with a 6 month old US passport had difficulties to check in for a flight to Europe from Bangkok,  because the agent wanted to see the old passport that she didn't stay over 180 days in Europe last calendar year.
