Anutin waits for the call from Pheu Thai but will not treat with Move Forward over its policies
by James Morris and Son Nguyen

image.jpeg

In the aftermath of Wednesday’s double blow to the ambitions of Mr Pita Limjaroenrat to become Thailand’s 30th Prime Minister, the political future of the country appears to be in the hands of Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, the leader of the Palang Pracharat Party and Bhumjaithai Party leader Mr Anutin Charnvirakul.

It appears that the men with the political aces who can open the door for the Pheu Thai Party are both deputy prime ministers in the outgoing government.

Pheu Thai to install Srettha as Prime Minister by forming a coalition pact with government parties
by Joseph O' Connor

image.jpeg

It is now likely that Mr Srettha Thavisin (left) will be proposed by a new coalition involving the Bhumjaithai Party and Palang Pracharat Party together with Pheu Thai when parliament next meets to elect the 30th Thai Prime Minister on Thursday, July 27th. On Wednesday, Ms Paetongtarn Shinawatra (right) spoke of the need to break the political impasse because of the damage being done to the Thai economy as the party got ready to cut the Move Forward Party adrift, a move which will lose it political capital with the public.

The path now being pursued by the Pheu Thai Party will see it lose heavily in terms of political capital as it will be reneging on clear commitments made during the General Election not to do business with parties linked with the 2014 military coup and the existing government of General Prayut Chan ocha.
