Fire Destroys Grocery Store Near Mae Ramat Market, Causing 4 Million Baht in Damages
A fire broke out in a grocery store adjacent to the Mae Ramat Fresh Market, Tak Province, causing extensive damage and narrowly avoiding the spread to surrounding shops and homes. Estimated losses are around 4 million baht, but 1 million baht in cash was safely recovered from the ashes. The incident was reported to Mae Ramat Police Station early on November 10. Firefighters from Mae Ramat Municipality and volunteers from the Phitak Kan Foundation promptly responded, along with local police. The fire started on the second floor of a two-story wooden building housing the grocery store, which was next to the main market structure. Large clouds of smoke billowed from the upper floor as firefighters worked urgently to control the flames, closing nearby roads to assist with fire containment. After an hour, they managed to extinguish the blaze, but the old, dry wooden structure was completely destroyed. Ms. Maninuch Khemthong, 74 years old, the owner of the house, she said that her house was built next to Mae Ramad fresh market more than 30 years ago. The ground floor sells fish and fresh food. At the time of the incident, she was downstairs in the house and heard a noise similar to an electrical short circuit. It happened near her Buddha statue room on the second floor. A few minutes later, there was a large amount of smoke and flames that quickly spread and burned the entire house and because the wood was old and dry, she had to run for her life amidst the chaos. Ms. Netlamai Wong-ub, 47 years old, the daughter of the owner of the house, who heard the news of the fire at her mother's house, went to inspect the valuables and found that the second floor had been badly damaged by the fire. Fortunately, there was still some good luck, the 1 million baht cash kept by the bed in a safe was not burnt but was just wet from the fire fighting. Police are investigating the cause of the fire, and forensic officers are expected to examine the site to gather further details. The store contained a significant amount of merchandise, contributing to the high financial losses. During the fire, the shop owner and nearby vendors moved belongings to safer locations, fearing the fire would spread to adjacent businesses and homes. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-11 -

Trump Declares Victory and Promises a "Golden Age" for America
I agree that no one else cares what any of us think. It'll all me me me and to hell with everyone else. I decided long ago to classify everything as BS till proven otherwise and I don't often get to make things not BS. The last 4 years, on both sides of the divide in the US have somewhat proven that theory. Never in the history of human communication has so much BS been spouted by so many. Of course, those that wish to can classify my burbles as BS too.- 1

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
Yes I did, it was the second post in this exchange, I wrote: "Bangkok Post says over 11.9 million Personal Income Tax forms were filed in 2023. Of those, 4.5 million were requests for refunds so therein lies part of the answer. But the 4.5 mill was unusually high as fraud was suspected. https://www.bangkokpost.com/business/general/2799906/tax-refunds-delayed-by-surge-in-fake-submissions 12 million PIT returns were filed in 2023. The workkforce is 38 million and 12 million represent 31% of the workforce. Or if you want to take it as a percentage of the population, which is 72 million, that's 17%. I used 24% because that's the mumber I have seen used in other discussions. Regardless, it's still 12 million tax returns, of which around 4 million are for refunds, "Of the total tax filings, 4.25 million were requests for tax refunds". The second link in that earlier post says," There were 9.55 million people in the tax system for fiscal 2020", which means 12 million returns, four years later, sounds about right. It goes on to say, "Out of 9.55 million taxpayers, there were 3.3 million people who had a monthly income of 25,000 baht, the minimum threshold to file tax forms, while the remaining 6.25 million earn less than the threshold".
