webfact
PHEU THAI LEADER Chonlanan Srikaew admitted today (Aug.7) one of his party’s electoral campaign catchphrases saying “Drive Out the Mouse, Smite the Cobras” was merely tongue in cheek. That Pheu Thai electoral catchphrase which metaphorically likened Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul to “the mouse”, given his Thai nickname Nu which literally translates in English as mouse, and compared any unreliable, kickback-taking, party-hopping politicians to “cobras” was remarkably used in the latest partisan campaign during the run-up to the May 14 election throughout Isaan or the northeastern region. According to the Pheu Thai leader, the voters would not take pithy campaign slogans, particularly “Drive Out the Mouse, Smite the Cobras”, too seriously since they were merely coined and used as a tongue in cheek to help with the party’s vote-wooing tactics. So confirming that pre-election promises aren't worth the cheap carboard they're printed on. 1
