Corruption watchdog to appeal order to publish reports on Prawit’s wristwatch scandal

Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will file an appeal tomorrow (Friday) against the Supreme Administrative Court’s order for them to disclose to the public its findings in an investigation into Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan’s luxurious wristwatches.

Besides the findings, the court also ordered the NACC to release its summary report on the scandal and the four statements given to the watchdog by General Prawit by Friday August 11th.

NACC secretary-general Niwatchai Kasemmongkol said that they cannot reveal publish all the investigative reports about the case to protect the safety of the witnesses otherwise, in the future, witnesses would not dare to come forward to the NACC to testify.

NACC’s investigative reports are equivalent to police investigative reports on criminal cases, which are considered confidential and cannot be disclosed to the public, said Niwatchai.

He also said that he has an appointment with self-made graft-busting crusader Veera Somkwamkid to explain why the NACC has not disclosed the findings in the wristwatch investigation after the Administrative Court ordered it to do so.

The people whose job it is to investigate corruption don't want details of the corruption of someone they investigated to be released? Says a lot about what their actual role is.  ????

  • Laughable.

  • how many witnesses were there - family of his "dead" friend even so - easily remedied - witness "a" , witness "b" etc.   Absolute bow lox

Nothing is allowed to be revealed.. the story of the dead friend must stay in place as Mr Prawith was finished with his job already a long time ago.  Why keep this man in place .. no use he is sleeper

Have they ever heard of redaction? Not difficult to publish a report but hide names.

LOL.

What kind of witnesses should there have been? The sellers in luxury watch shops?

It's unbelievable how stupid they think the population is.

I would guess that watch would be easily identifiable as it would have no working parts

If Thailand is willing to suffer you “Hunter Biden” types - which some of us traveled to the literal ends of the earth to escape - I doubt that general Halfwit has much to worry about. Neither has boded particularly well for the Kingdom, in any event. Thanks for the memories.

For all we know maybe he got it at the custom's department auction and it might be a fake.

No doubt anyththing published from the grossly incompetent and corrupt NACC would expose just how bad they are at their jobs by protecting the guilty.

How can they even possibly over rule a Supreme court decision...

Perhaps the NACC should be investigated for corruption.

They expect the NACC to show all the details of the non-investigation to prove that they are protecting Prawit from his oversight?

NACC is as bent as any other organisation in Thailaand.

Have you seen how thick Prawit's wrists are. Luxury watches have straps made to fit the buyer......what is the chance that Prawit's friend had such thick wrists? 100:1? 500:1? Certainly 99% of watch bands would not fit the Prawit.....and he would need to get each watch custom changed to fit him. Do you of such a thing to a borrowed watch?

Democracy for Thailand.... laughable

Is the timing just me?

Keep your political bias out of this thread.

Exactly....A Supreme court decision can not ever be overuled  can it?

Have they published their findings? if the watches were from a friend and borrowed then the witnesses are not in trouble, if the watches were not borrowed then tell us and hide the witnesses.

Surprise, surprise, the Junta’s anti corruption commission is corrupt.

MF will eventually take the reins, and then….oh the truths that will be revealed - it will be quite the spectacle.

Classic Catch 22 situation.  Testify & Prawit will learn your name; don't testify & he will be exonerated.
