Trump proposing April 2026 trial in federal Jan. 6 indictment

He might as well just come out and say it, he believes himself to be above the law and should never be called to answer for his actions.

Drag the spoiled brat into court on the date already set, kicking and screaming if necessary.

And if he dies before the trial that means he goes down as a winner.  The man has a very good mind, as he'd tell you himself.

How Many of Trump’s Trials Will Happen Before the Election?
Donald J. Trump is the target of four separate criminal indictments, but the prosecutions could drag on for months or even years.

Michael B. Mukasey, a former U.S. attorney general * and longtime Manhattan federal judge, said because of the complex issues raised in all four of Mr. Trump’s cases, “I think the odds are slim to none that any of them gets to trial before the election.”

Interesting article from CNN about how Trump, regardless of the outcome of his four indictments, should be disqualified from even being a POTUS candidate on the basis of the 14th Amendment.

'Prominent conservative legal scholars are increasingly raising a constitutional argument that 2024 Republican candidate Donald Trump should be barred from the presidency because of his actions to overturn the previous presidential election result'.

From the linked article:

Luttig and Tribe acknowledge the question of Trump appearing on ballots in 2024 might ultimately have to be decided by the Supreme Court.

Well if the GOP refuse to grow a set, leaving it to the SCOTUS to decide if a totally unviable candidate is what the GOP should offer the nation is I suppose their last hope of finding someone else to take responsibility for the mess the GOP have walked into.

Legal experts warn Trump’s “ludicrous” proposed 2026 trial date request could blow up in his face

Former President Donald Trump's bid to push his D.C. federal trial to 2026 could backfire, two former federal prosecutors warned in an op-ed at the conservative outlet The Bulwark. Trump's proposed April 2026 trial date threatens his legal team's credibility before U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan as pre-trial proceedings begin, wrote former federal prosecutors Frederick Baron and Dennis Aftergut.

"Trump's past pattern is that his lawyers lose credibility by kowtowing to his absurd, uninformed demands.

Trump Shoots Himself in the Foot with Demand for Trial Date in 2026

ON THURSDAY, DONALD TRUMP FIRED his first shot in Judge Tanya Chutkan’s courtroom—straight into his own foot. His lawyers proposed to the district court judge that his federal trial on conspiracy and obstruction charges related to the aftermath of the 2020 election and the events of January 6th should not occur until April 2026...

Trump’s proposal on the all-important trial date sends an unintended message: that Trump is pressing his lawyers to take legal positions so extreme that they will be entirely disregarded.

As noted on different topic, Trump's lawyers said:

"In a 16-page filing, attorney Gregory Singer argued for the defense team that putting Trump on trial as requested by prosecutors on Jan. 2, 2024, ... would mark a “rush to trial” that would violate his constitutional rights and be “flatly impossible” given the enormity of the government’s evidence."

They raise a constitutional issue which would be for an appeal of any ruling so it seems they do not expect the sitting Judge to agree to their current motion.

As the articles I posted immediately above the previous post state, the Trump teams claim that the case is so complicated that it demands an almost 3 year interval before a trial can be held is ludicrous. Far more complicated cases take far less time to come to trial.
