A Thai man defending his pregnant wife from an attack from a man with mental health issues wielding a knife was fatally stabbed in the chest.

Bang Sao Thong Police Station officers were called to the stabbing scene in the Keha Muaeng Mai Bang Phi Village in the Bang Sao Thong district of Samut Prakarn at 12.30am today.

On arrival, officers encountered two injured victims at the scene, one was a 29 year old man named Pornthep Siwan and another was Pornthep’s pregnant wife, 37 year old Siriporn Singkhan.

Pornthep bore a critical stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to Chularat 5 Hospital where he later succumbed to his injury.

His pregnant wife, Siriporn, sustained injuries to her knees and mouth. She was transported to the hospital for initial first aid and a thorough assessment of her pregnancy.

Don’t you have anything about you at all? Are there any depths to which you would not stoop?

He is dead, but his wife and child were saved. "Heroic" is a word often misused - but IMHO it is appropriate in this case.

She interfered by asking the guy what he was doing... should have passed him by without asking.

Well he did try to drive away when they saw the knife, unfortunately they crashed and the perb just kept coming, and went for his wife.

There aren't that many posters around that manage to 'score' double digit 'sad' emojis @Gottfrid, but you made with this utterly contemptible post of yours!

- Death by stabbing while protecting his pregnant wife,

- 13 year old death by stabbing with a sword by a 16 year old boy,

Another day in paradise .....

Take some time out, have some quiet time by yourself, and contemplate the wrong direction your life has taken you so far.

One of your most awful comments.

At 79 and a farang I would do exactly the same if it were my wife who had been attacked.

And NO, I would not spend any time figuring out if it was the right thing to do. I would simply do it.

Or as I like to say: If you can't say something positive about someone, shut the f*** up.

What a tragedy, the guy lost his life, the lady as well as the baby will have their lives ruined, all for a guy who should have lit up all kind of red warning signs and be interned.

Ah, and yes some of the comments are so despicable that I cannot lower myself to answer them.

Lucky this wasn't in the US. It would have been an AR-15 instead of a knife and 20 would be dead.

Don't be. You should be ashamed. What in holy hell is wrong with you? Absolutely disgusting.

Quite tragic. Brings to mind 2 things that could have saved the husband.

1. At some point, Thailand is going to have to pay some attention to mental health issues. One insipid administration after another has been ignoring this for decades.

2. If the husband had some self defense or fighting skills it is quite possible he could have disarmed and beaten down the homicidal freak. Always a good idea to educate ourselves with at least basic fighting skills.

My point was not if do or not do. Of course he should do. Never said anything else. My point was the need to quickly figure out how o deal with the situation. That could have saved his life.
