A Pattaya police team from the Child, Youth and Female Crime Suppression Authority, on 12 July, successfully managed to rescue a group of foreign youth workers, aged between 12 and 17, who were being abused, from a “hel_l” factory in the middle of Chonburi province.

Responding to a tip off from the Women Foundation that a group of underage foreign children was being both illegally employed and abused, Pol.Lt.Col. Kittiphop Anuwongworawech, Superintendent of the Child,Youth and Female Crime Suppression Authority obtained a search warrant and raided Thamathorn Vegetable Oil Factory at 20/3, Moo 1, Nong Ree, Mueng, Chonburi province.

At the factory, the police team found over 20 foreign children, aged between 12 and 17, working under intolerable conditions as vegetable oil fillers, and effectively imprisoned on the premises. Apparently, the Women Foundation had previously helped four young Lao children, aged between 12 and 15, that had successfully escaped from the factory, who had reported that they were forced to work long hours and were abused.

Mrs. Prapawan Sae-Lor, (50) from Bann Kode, Mueng, Chonburi, who had the abused children under her control, was subsequently arrested. She was charged with employing underage foreign workers without work permits, detaining them against their wills and abusing them.
