You seriously think that writing a book requires a work permit?   Gawd...   How about writing a diary every day, does that require one, also?

Only in someone's schizophrenic mind. Look at all those answers in this thread.

You seriously think that "all those answers" in this AN thread must be accurate and correct!  Claiming that an individual writing a book needs a work permit in order to do so legally is probably the best example of inaccuracy and fallacy.

It's specifically stated that the exemption is for attending. Organising, speaking, etc. is not listed as an exempt activity.

Those organising are probobly going to be attendees which is an exemption.  Organising, speaking etc. is not specifically included in activities needing a work permit, either!

Your assumption is wrong. I just wanted to clarify some things, that's all.

So you were bored and decided to rehash a topic that has been discussed ad naseum on this sub-forum?

Or do you just cherrypick the topics you're interested in and don't know that the question of "what is work" comes up regularly on here and the same mishmash of lies, half-truths and "I know a guy" stories are trotted out?

"the charges of soliciting and conspiracy were filed against them"

Not running a class without a work permit

You conveniently chose to ignore

The pleaded guilty to the charges, which were "soliciting and conspiracy". And yes, that was "in a case related to holding a sex training seminar".

Without a work permit, which I believe I recall from threads about this at the time.  Authorities were investigating the seminar/training without a work permit, and found naughtiness was going on in Pattaya, leading to more serious charges.

If you write the book purely for your own enjoyment, then no WP is required.  If you write the book and then sell it, you need a WP. (I recall yonks ago a guy in Phuket built his own boat, which was all fine and no WP required.  But then he sold that boat and was done for working without a WP).

I have already demonstrated that all work done by non-Thai citizens (apart from that done by diplomats, etc.) requires a work permit, and that it is at the discretion of the Ministry of Labour what actives are excepted.

There is no list of activities that require a work permit and there never has been.

I have given you the facts and quoted the relevant sections of law so others can make their own decisions, however please do not misrepresent what I said.

Organising an event and attending an event are not the same activity, and organising an event is not an excepted activity as notified by the Council of State.

I'm not the slightest bit concerned what others do or do not do, but I am concerned that the correct information is available for those seeking it.

They are still working so need a work permit, even for voluntary work

I have a WP not in the said province. I recently asked them if I can do volenteer work at a charity organisation. They said as long as Im not getting paid no problems. Best to chat with local immigration and get their name

A see lots and lots of foreigners running workshops/seminars in Koh Phangan. Do they need a work permit to do that? Or is it not required as long as it's not considered "work"?

You need a work permit to make a workshop or seminar – the immigration authorities actually seems to search for foreigners without work permit at the moment, also on Phangan.

I think the guy was a serial boat builder, and he wasn't building his first one.  But I never heard what happened to him.

It wouldn't surprise me if you technically need a WP to write a book to be sold.  It would gobsmack me if anyone actually got caught and punished for writing a book without a WP.  But I've seen weirder.
