webfact
At around 7:00 PM on September 10th, police officer Siripong Lapanich from Thong Lor Police Station was notified of a violent incident resulting in death within a workers' camp located in Pak Soi Phai Singto, Rama IV Road, Khlong Toei, Bangkok. On inspection, officials discovered a three-story workers' housing complex with 930 rooms, housing approximately 1,600 workers, reported Siam Rath. Nearby, her husband, Mr. Jettagarn, 34, awaited police custody. Upon interrogation, Mr. Jettagarn stated that he and the deceased were married with two children and worked as safety officers. On the night of September 9th, after having drinks together in their room, the couple had a heated argument stemming from jealousy. He admitted to assaulting his wife, but they separated and went to sleep. The next afternoon, after a market trip and another drinking session, Mr. Jettagarn woke up to find his wife unresponsive and sought help from a neighbor. The police have initially charged Mr. Jettagarn with causing death by assault and will proceed with legal actions. Sounds - for workers - quite reasonable to me - though I would not want to need any communal loo in a hurry. less than 2 to a room, and probably less cramped than the workers own homes.
