Chuan explains why he voted against Srettha for PM

I've always like former PM Chuan Leekpai. He was steadily building the Thai economy back after the money crash in 1997. His governess was solid and back by good sound financial principles, but... it was too slow and Thaksin came in promising the moon... except for the people in the South. He only had a baseball bat for them. Yes, they were an impediment to progress in the South, but his bullies attacked rather than maneuvering around the lies of the NGOs who were filling the populous with horror stories.

Chuan also stood for election in 2000 against Thaksin and lost. He also stood against Thakin in the 2004 election and lost once again even heavier.

Up until 1997 the democrats were riding high but have gone downhill ever since.

As for the democrats in the south, they had their own homegrown deputy leader in Suthep Thaugsuban for the Surat Thani province.

What a superstar he turned out to be for the southern provinces and the democrat party.

Yet one who was, effectively, prepared to go along with (certainly make no public comment or principled stand on) any or all of the coups, shenanigans or gerrymandering which has marked the political scene for the last two years.

It was tongue in cheek, cryptic.

Many principles, depending on the occasion.
