webfact Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Bangkok – A man was arrested in Bangkok after he admitted to having embezzled 41 million baht from a Buddhism foundation. The Thai Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) told TPN media that they have arrested a man identified only as Mr. Chaloam, 52, at a condominium in Bang Kapi, Bangkok. The arrest followed after an arrest warrant was issued from the Central Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases in September of last year, 2022. Chaloam is pleading guilty as a staffer in a government organization or government office, of being guilty of violating the Financial Businesses Act, and theft. Mr. Chaloam has fully admitted the accusations, say the CIB. spidermike007 Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Chaloam is pleading guilty as a staffer in a government organization or government office. Ha! One more reason to never trust the government. as if we needed another one. 2
TallGuyJohninBKK Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 "He and other suspects who were not yet fully identified by the CIB embezzled 41,045,966.67 baht from the foundation." That would be interesting, to learn who else was in on the Buddhist foundation scamming/skimming -- not that we're likely to hear more about it from the police anytime soon. 1

Cardinalblue1958 Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 He won’t serve enough time to what he stole….BS in the Thai legal system of getting time reduction b/c you admit your crime….why should that matter? Never fully accountable
khaowong1 Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 I'm surprised he didn't take a runner. But I"m guessing he had to grease a few palms for this money, so probably he got only about half that.
