Does drinking while taking antibiotics lessen the effect of the medication?

That's what I was told for as long as I remember.

If you're going to drink, don't even bother taking any form of penicillin.

My Doc told me that the AB's will not work at all if you drink alcohol

alcohol will kill most anti-biotics,,most are weakened by coffee or any drinks with caffine,such as coke,pepsi,tea,,even as good as tetracyclene is booze will kill it..so it is best to just drink water as long as you are on em.

Seriously, not a good idea. Most likely won't kill you but not a good idea. I've drank and used them at the same time. They killed the bugs and my liver doesn't seem to be totally rotted out yet but still not a good idea.

Drinking diminishes the potency of most antibiotics and increases the incidence of gastitis.

I can't think of any serious liver complications short term but not sure.
