What's your opinion on this? Jordan Peterson on IQ

I cannot say that I am in complete agreement with Jordan Peterson's thinking concerning IQ.

Do you agree, disagree, or differ in important ways, with Jordan' views about IQ, the importance of IQ in daily living, and the importance of IQ in determining the mix of IQ in the workplace?

Certainly thought provoking. But Jordan Peterson always is, which is why he is contraversial. The main point that got me was the no jobs for people with IQs under 83. I must confess I had never thought of this as a reason for the existence in every society of the underclass....unemployable people. I think that there is a deal of truth in this, but how to solve it? Peterson is right in that neither left not right are even examining the problem, for the reason he outlines.

The first tape was not as clear in its message however studying vague things like intelligence is a lost cause unless the concept of 'intelligence' can be explicitly articulated. If not you tend to end up with a pig's breakfast of semantics. 

 

 

However I have read that IQ correlates very closely with success at work and salaries earned. Much of the work on IQ was criticised by the negative reaction to the finding that blacks have lower IQs than whites, which was claimed to be racist. The finding that Asians had higher IQs that whites seems to have been forgotten about.

 

The black vs white claim was made and used to explain that poorer performance by blacks at work, was not caused by racism but by the fact that the IQ test were based in favour of whites, because they were designed by whites. I obviously don't know whether this claim is true or not This wouldn't be surprising as whites invented the tests. This latter argument is akin to the recent claim that photography is racist because the films used portray white skin tones better than black ones....but then again whites invented photography and the films and papers that make it possible so maybe they optimised the papers for white skin tones. 

 

Overall I find Jordan Peterson a thought provoking man. And a man unafraid to talk sense while ignoring the driving fashions of the day like racism and LBGTI+ woke stuff, that are trying to cancel him.

Whilst all the while the incredibly high IQ people are continually being outsmarted by people who stopped attending school at twelve years old. Super high IQ GG on this board cannot even find himself a woman. 
Easy to bend history to suggest that one race invented everything. Conveniently forgetting that not so long ago it would have not been acceptable to even admit that a woman or a person of colour was the real inventor. So don’t put too much stock in that. 
A sad state of affairs that so many need JP to validate their existence.

A relatively high IQ can be an advantage. A very high IQ usually is not. Especially if the person had a bad childhood, carries alot of baggage, or is neurotic. I have known many highly intelligent people who are very skilled at making themselves miserable. In my opinion an IQ between 90 and 135 is ideal. Anything over that can be problematic.

Jordan is very intelligent (>150), and he studied and worked in psychology for decades.

Nobody of us knows even 1% of what he knows.

What's the point of us arguing about what he says.

 

It's like arguing with Elon Musk how to optimize his rockets. Who wants to tell him how to make it better?

All manner of IQ tests have been thought up to correct perceived cultural and racial bias, but the worldwide results, which I am not going to post here, appear to be much the same for races, where ever they have been brought up. On average Chinese and Japanese get the best results , Caucasians next who you know who at the bottom. While it's fine to say that the you know who's are generally superior physically and excel at many sports such as athletics, to say they are just not as bright due to genetics only results in the old racism mud slinging. It's thought now that the lack of Neanderthal DNA in the you know who's is far more to blame than the usual excuses of poverty/racism/slavery.

If one is intolerant of others, thinking that you are so much better and so much more intelligent, you are going to struggle with relationships. Relationships need to be based in reality…. which has a tendency to stick a spoke in the wheels of mere fantasy. 

Learning how to live in harmony with others can open up a world of possibilities.

Otherwise you are liable to get stuck in a very limited world of your own.

Maybe you can say that Chinese or Japanese are in average more intelligent than maybe Europeans (maybe, I don't know). But by how much? Let's say it's 5%, which would be a lot. Then you still have a huge overlap of over average Europeans which are more intelligent than under average Chinese. So, any individual which we meet from any location or race might have a higher or lower IQ than us.

People exhibit their intellect in different ways. Different ways of understanding. Until you understand that, you won’t ever understand anything. You will die ignorant.
