I just want to thank everyone for chiming in here - even those who may have got it wrong. This has been extremely useful.

Thank you, it's nice to have someone around here who shows a bit of gratitude. I've been meaning to post again regarding my post above from yesterday.. I want to make it clear that I was pointing out a methodology. (Dependent's Visa)

I was expressly not recommending the use of that agent (or any other). I was merely using their website as an information platform. Anyway, which ever route you end up taking I hope it's successful for you.

Just sometimes people I have on ignore I opt to read their post.

Maybe I was wrong.

So I read your previous 2 posts suggesting PE visa for 95 year old.

Get real ...most foolish suggestion

can you put me back on your ignore list? It was so cozy, peaceful, warm and fuzzy there w/o you. :wai:

beside, I have a new stalker named "Somebody". ????

You need to check your facts. A non-o marriage or a non-o retirement visa is for one year and can be renewed indefinitely (as long as you meet the requirements).

Stop embarrassing yourself.

You have been given good advice from Lite Beer and BritTim.

BTW both guys are mods

and extremely experienced.

Sometimes terms are  not all that important.

Often it is.

Suggest you keep reading threads to learn

So what is the correct name of the one year visa for which you need 800k in the bank?

Stop.

The 800k is using money in bank method for obtaining a Non O based on retirement in Thailand.

The subsequent 12 month extension required 800k seasoned in Thai bank account in your name only for 2 months.

The application for the initial non O only requires 800k in account on day of application.

BTW visas are not renewed.

The permission of stay can be extended.

The ME Non O visa either based on marriage or retirement is a visa valid for one year and I won't outline the requirements as that has been explained above.

Think couple of  posts  from mods explained clearly that option.

In the main obtained at Savannakhet for folks already in Thailand.

Back the truck up.

You are very confused

You need 800k in the bank (or a monthly income of 65k) for your annual extension of stay, based on Retirement. Although there is no such thing as a Retirement Visa, we all know what you mean, but some of our more pedantic members sit on their computers waiting to pounce on anyone who calls it a Retirement visa.

I would think she's even more confused now

Really?

Yes really.

A pathway to living in Thailand is to enter with tourist visa or visa exempt and using TM86 and TM87 respectively to obtain a Non O based on retirement or marriage.

That requires 800/400 on day of application.

That provides a 90 day stamp.

In the last 30 days apply for 12 months extension.

Alternatively obtain Non O prior to entering Thailand at Thai embassy or consulates.

Isn’t that what I’ve been saying all along: get a one year non-o based on retirement…???

We do not know what someone is asking.

Many threads start with...

"I have a Retirement Visa"

That could mean Non O based on retirement single entry giving 90 day permission of stay.

Could mean have annual extension.

Could mean Non O-A.

Could mean ME Non O marriage or retirement. Valid for one year

All of which require specific advice.

"He can obtain a non O retirement in home country. (best to provide that detail)

Having entered Thailand with that visa he would receive a 90 day stamp.

He will need a Thai bank account."

And that's not a retirement visa?

Gotcha. ????

I was starting to get annoyed why my layman’s suggestion (get a one year non-o retirement) is causing such a fuss.
Thanks. I can now happily move on with my life.

Geez.

He can apply for a single entry Non O based on retirement..

He could also apply for ME Non O based on retirement.

Neither should be referred to as Retirement Visa.

Very different animals.

Won't continue this chit chat as obviously pointless.

The only Non O visa based on retirement is the multiple entry Non O valid for one year that provides a 90-day permission to stay on each entry into Thailand. Based on your later posts, I do not think that is what you mean. The next nearest is the Non O-A (long stay) visa which is also not what you mean. I know you think we should be able to figure out that you are referring to extensions of your permission to stay (which are not visas) but it eases communication if we start with a basic understanding of what a visa is.

Read earlier posts from experts trying to explain things to you.

There is no.... (get a one year non-o retirement)

Absolute ignorance.

There is a Multiple Entry non O based on marriage or retirement that provides stamp of 90 days permit. Then exit and reenter for another 90 day permission of stay.

That is completely different to a Non O based on retirement or marriage and subsequent 12 month extension.

No requirement to exit Thailand.

If wish to you need to buy a reentry permit.

Available single or multiple.

Apples and oranges hence need detail..

No it's NOT a retirement visa.

It's a Non O that is single entry and that 90 day stamp (permission of stay) can be extended by 12 months.

Visas CANNOT be extended.

Your permission of stay can be extended.

Just showing ignorance.

Ask for advice and folk will advise
