Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
It is called FATCA for the US of A. So you are correct that USA is not part of CRS but nevertheless the US transmits data to other countries under FATCA rules which is very similiar to CRS. I am not aware if currently the US IRS transmit data to Thailand. However the USA transmits currently a similiar dataset as CRS from the US to Germany for example. https://www.bzst.de/DE/Privatpersonen/Selbstauskuenfte/FATCA/fatca_node.html -

Baht becoming ridiculously strong
Ok, so my apologies I just thought that just about all the world (exaggeration here) knew Kamala Harris. Kamala Harris: The Vice President The White House (.gov) Kamala D. Harris is the Vice President of the United States of America. She was elected Vice President after a lifetime of public service, And Kamala Harris appears so stupid when she speaks, that I was suggesting that her presence as a vice-president of the US was enough to to bring down the value of the US dollar, and making the Thai baht stronger as a result. So my laconic reply did not go well with you... -

Latest developments and discussion of recent events in the Ukraine War
For data wonks that want a deep dive into the Russian MIC. Here's a newly released report ESD is a Mittler Report Verlag (MRV) publication, with history dating back to 1789. Since January 2015 ESD has evolved into a top-quality, global bimonthly print publication. Supplemented fortnightly by ESD Spotlight, the on-line Security and Defence newsletter, distribution tripled in 2015 and both ESD and ESD Spotlight continue to be the fastest-growing publications in the international Defence & Security field. https://euro-sd.com/2024/09/articles/40149/inside-russias-2024-military-industrial-complex/ It is worth noting is that the modern Russian MIC was built on the remnants of the Soviet military industry, which was designed to operate under pressure and produce huge volumes of equipment in a protracted conflict with NATO. While much of this was either unused, neglected or lost in the 1990s and early 2000s, the 2010s saw significant recapitalisation of this dormant potential. While output figures are in key sectors such as new-build tank production are still far below Soviet levels, nonetheless, this still leaves Russia with fairly high output for many key systems compared to many other countries. This relative advantage over Ukraine has most evidently been leveraged through Russia’s adoption of an attritional warfare strategy in Ukraine. -

Must Read Its Happening - Law to Tax Overseas Income Now in Progress
Interesting post. I think some things though are different to what you say based on what I have picked up here and there. Happy to be corrected if there is new information Super for most employees when taken on retirement is tax free in Australia as you say. You can put this type of super in an annuity - subject to limits - and pay no tax on the income. Government employee pensions e.g. defined benefit schemes - are not tax free in Australia but have a tax offset - when I retire I am in this category . The old age government pensions is taxable in Australia. Most don't pay tax as offsets mean no tax is payable. For the double tax agreement it appears there is a specific exclusion for government employee pensions but not for other forms of superannuation or the age pension. There is a video on aspects of this in Dinga's post. https://aseannow.com/topic/1306896-thai-government-to-tax-remitted-income-from-abroad-for-tax-residents-starting-2024/page/282/ -

Schengen Visa Question
Thank you. We are not married and I was led to believe that I could not submit myself as sponsor - in the way I do for UK visas. It is an unnecessary pain in the butt having to load my partner's account up with 150,000 Baht for a few days. -

Why is Trump Really Running for Office Again?
How am I "...trying to falsely manipulate inflation data and create hyperbole..."? The target is 2%, and it's at 2.9% today, yes So, it 145% of target, is that correct or not? It seems to me that claiming 2.9% is "...just slightly above the 2% target..." is falsely manipulating inflation data to create hyperbole. "The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) judges that inflation of 2 percent over the longer run, as measured by the annual change in the price index for personal consumption expenditures, is most consistent with the Federal Reserve's mandate for maximum employment and price stability.
