Sounds like you have an interesting and challenging life in the states. Your posts are amusing too. Why not have a thread about life in America while away from Thailand. Could be fun and better than many of the daily trivial topics on this site.

i had to re-read your reply to see where the "attacks" were but much to my surprise..caught me off guard......I dont work here in CM so i can battle the keyboard warriors daily...however upon my hesitant return next week ....I just go back to jump into work and get settled back into that toxic place......i dont mix between the 2.....when im there im there mindset...until return tix booked

as far as threads from the US im just trying not to get shot by some bitter dude in a red hat...

I don't get why a guy who posts a lot on the internet is endlessly shaming people who are posting on the internet.

He's like a guy in a porno theatre who keeps interrupting the movie to call other audience members perverts.

You go to porno theatres?

I am not young anymore. I just turned 50. I am thinking about future and the problems Thailand will impose on me to be a "guest" in the country. One of my biggest concerns is the everscamming healthcare and I have the first hand account of Thai insurance being completely useless. I have almost 1 million (Canadian) bucks saved and me and wife are saving money every month. I just think Thailand is bad value for money, that is it.

And what benefits will the useless "Elite" visa give me? Still 90 day reports, still annual visa renewals, still reporting every time I stay in the hotel? Are you kidding me with this advice?

I am convinced now you're really making mountains out of mole hills here. With your current savings and gainful employment you've got very little to worry about as long as your assets are properly invested. Live where you want and are comfortable. I'm in Thailand for the time being but hey, if it gets uncomfortable or not feasible at some point I'll go elsewhere or back to the USA.

The bet thing I ever did for myself was buy a house in the US and start a proper brokerage investment portfolio about 15  years ago. I'm 61 and have enough to keep me going until I"m dead. Especially if I stay in Thailand where my monthly expenses are about 50% of what they'd be in the USA. BTW I'm single with no kids so that keeps the overhead low too.

I was the day manager of a famous porno theatre in New York circa '76. Show World. Possibly worth a wiki.

Still a few hanging on in Japan. I saw a whole film about women in white panties sliding up and down banisters. If I saw a still-existent porn theatre, I might pop in for a half an hour to soak up the sleaze.

The Windmill club in Pattaya will blow your hair back... I've been in there twice and it was debauchery of the highest order. No need for video or cinema. Live and in your face..literally

Def worth the Google. I love it when they say, "If there's a problem, the Mama-san will straighten it out"

Has anyone ever put this to the test? I have to believe the Mama-san is more on the side of the earner she sees every day instead of the white ape.

Porno in NYC was about money laundering. But then it became a gold mine. Video cassettes of Deep Throat flew out the door. They cost about $2 to make, sold for $79.99. That's $354 in today's $$$.

Porn launched the videocassette, and cable TV. People thought that this new technology would be used to help people learn to speak French.

It's just great to shoot the breeze in a thread where retards are just absolutely flailing.

And this is exactly what I am doing.

My initial idea was to just do a landing in Canada so my wife can get her permanent residency and return. But some of the guys who post here are literally running a 106 page thread about taxation and then I get the cr@p for thinking too mutt.

Why is it nonsense? and why are you soooo upset by it 555

Because I’d like to be able to read and perhaps join some interesting conversation from time to time. But so much of the time it’s just childish idiocy.

Vietnam is essentially free to access for most - if not all - westerners for 45 days. Great country, great food, beautiful beaches and mountains (the Da Nang area is a unique mix of both). Many young westerners here too. No wonder: everything is cheap even fancy hotels.

Americans (US passports) require prior permission from VN to get a visa on arrival.  I didn't know that when I tried to fly from Phuket to Danang last month.  I was denied boarding in Phuket.  My Thai GF was fine.  Thais and most others can get visa on arrival. Of course, it cancelled the vacation.  We'll try again next month.  I got approval from the embassy through an email through Vietnam electronic travel authorization online (about $80).

Windmill is probably the best agogo currently, not as good as it was as the old guard have moved on and newbies aren't willing to do the same things. Windmill 1 and 2 incl upstairs worth a visit

If it was any other country, your reaction would probably be the same.

Probably, especially from people who have never been.  Only limited visits by myself, and liked it, and even considered retiring there.

Bit too chilly though, but TBH, I'm not exactly a hot weather fan either.   Easier to get cooler than it is warmer though.  Can always go to pool or surf to cool off if wanting to get out of house & AC.

Not an option if cold out.   Did enjoy playing in the snow, first few days of a snowstorm, but that enough.

Any place I need to plug my car into a heater, is too cold for me.

Think W or E coast would be better choice than center, as the Arctic air is a bi-atch and bitter cold, sub -0- is tough to take, along with the wind chill factor.

Free healthcare, if accessible would be a major plus though, if needed.  Wife shouldn't have too much problem finding employment, and at a better salary, if wanting.

Good Luck if you follow through.

yeah, but if you are worth what you claim to be worth, you have many available options and it shouldn't be that difficult to manage your life.

with your (alleged) savings, you could easily maintain residency in canada and spend half the year in thailand.

i'm outta here. i don't even trust you're entirely truthful about your situation.

The beaches, the gals, the food, the lack of freezing cold weather, the standard of living, the fun loving nature of alot of Thais I know, the sense of community, the humor. The cost of labor. I could go on and on. So thrilled to have left the broken US in the rear view.

makes sense...sadly im heading back to toxic town this week to get back to work.....blah
