webfact
MOVE FORWARD MP Thaopipop Limjitakorn suggested today (Oct.15) provincial governors, mayors and other local leaders be legally empowered to issue operating licences and set up the zoning for night entertainment venues in lieu of the central government. Thaopipop was responding to Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s directive for the Ministry of Interior to take steps to allow all night entertainment spots in Bangkok and the provinces to open until 4.00 a.m. primarily for tourism promotion reasons. Though, the MP said, he agrees with the prime minister’s policy to extend the operating hours at these entertainment venues, the provincial governors or local leaders should practically be in charge of issuing operating licences and set up the geographical zoning for such places in effort to prevent or contain corruption which might possibly arise and involve relevant government officials. I gave this post a 'thumbs up' and, on reflection, I realise that decentralising venue licenses would simply formalise the 'control' that many governors exercise already via their district administrators and the RTP.????

jingjai9
I think this is a good line of thinking. If each province designates areas for night entertainment at least there is a chance that this activity will stay in an area where children and families do not walk. Corruption is another topic. If they have entertainment areas, you can see the physical change. Many cities around the world have red light districts. It is easier on the police to manage. Local authorities know their areas and can make better decisions than legislators in Bangkok.
