National — Thailand received 21 million international tourists in the January to October 16th period this year, generating over 882 billion baht in tourism revenue.

In an exact tally, the country recorded 21,019,800 foreign arrivals since the beginning of 2023. These arrivals pumped 882.45 billion baht into the economy, reported Minister of Tourism and Sports Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol.

Over the past week, there has been an increase in the number of European tourists by 6.71 percent, or an additional 5,227 people, compared to the previous week. This is attributed to the onset of the high travel season, along with airlines beginning to increase the number of flights for tourists from the European region.

As of last week (October 9th – 15th), Thailand saw 470,299 international tourists or about 67,186 per day on average. This represents a 5.56-percent decrease from the previous week.

So 26-27 Million by end of 2023? How does that compare to expectations? Excuses or celebrations on these numbers?

The boys at TAT will be celebrating, as they always do.

882 billion received from tourism and they are giving away  560 billion to every citizen over 16.

Money the country can ill afford.

Even with this huge bribe they still did not get a majority in the election. They promised this money two weeks before the polls as they feared losing to MFP and preventing the return of their de facto criminal leader.

Half that. They always base it on arrivals. I could trip here for a few weeks and do Vietnam, Cam, Laos—bouncing each time—and I am three people lol.

One week they are beating the drum over success, the next crying over the impact of Paragon shootings, the war in Israel etc etc...... No idea where we stand except it is Borscht and curry at the breakfast buffets next month.

So every single person including children spent an average 39,000 + each

The daily dose of tourism figures.

....and the peasants cried....'We'll all be rich!"  😏

I do wonder how the data is collected to come to that number.

Statisitic is part of math,

standard deviations can be calculated analogous Gauss.

Who t.f. is Gauss, TAT sayiiiiin

At the start of the year they stated a forecast range of between 24-30 million primarily due to the uncertainty of the level of Chinese recovery, so looking like they'll come in around the mid-point.

The same basis every country in the world uses whether your visits are 2 weeks apart or 3 trips spread over a year. You think any country back checks every person arriving to see whether it's their first visit in the year and reduce the figures accordingly ?

Every story on tourism gets reported because it's one of those topics people love to comment on, monthly factory output just wouldn't stir the same emotions. If you weren't signed up here I'm sure you could live your life blissfully unaware of tourist numbers.

Ms. Sudawan reported that last week, Malaysian tourists led the way

The fact that Myanmar workers make up the largest part of their tourist figures speaks volumes about Thailand's tourism !

TAT ONLY counts people arriving by air, not many Burmese construction workers or fishermen fly into Swampy on their way to work!

As mentioned it's the high season coming up so expect a large increase of Tourists from cold wet Europe plus Russians and Chinese on their 90 day visas

It will be like Christmas is coming to the Thai tourist board 🤑

Does anyone ever fact check TAT stats?

I did once, I used the following, amongst other things, just click on the year you're interested in:

https://investor.airportthai.co.th/transport.html

Forgot to say....you have to add in the non-AOT airports and passenger traffic but exclude land border crossings. I got very very close to one set of numbers issued by TAT, that convinced me they were legit.

Nope, it will be 67,186.032  You forgot to add yourself to the monthly total and divide yourself into 31 pieces which is how you will average out.

👨‍🎓

That was total spending in a year of all the tourists in OP, and it's barely any more than the digital wallet scam handout would cost...

The counting method had been same for decades.

They targeted 25 million in 2023.

67 thousand arrival per day is around 200 international flight arrivals per day (of 333 pax per flight).  Is there really this number of flights into T/L every day...?

I guess so if TAT figures are true...

Where to start with that one, some people. 😂
