Your 'friend' can relax - nothing over New Year is dry. 1 1 1
bamnutsak Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 I'm shocked they decided and announced this so early. Usually, they wait until a day or two before. That said, I can see them throwing 2 Jan back in the holiday category closer to the end of the year.
webfact Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Thai Cabinet Bridges Holiday Gap to Make New Year a 4-Day Holiday by Tanakorn Sangiam BANGKOK (NNT) - The Cabinet has approved a change to the upcoming New Year holiday period to begin a day earlier, effectively starting on 29 December through 1 January. Government agencies may consider keeping their offices open, if the newly announced holiday disrupts their services. According to Government Spokesman Chai Wacharonke, the Cabinet also approved an additional official holiday for government agencies on 30 December 2024, which will allow civil servants to have a 5-day holiday period next year. Government agencies are asked to consider whether the newly announced holiday periods would affect their operations and services, and to adjust their closing dates accordingly to minimize the impact. The Cabinet has also assigned state enterprises, the Bank of Thailand, and the Ministry of Labour to consider adopting the new holidays according to the related laws, which could make the new holidays applicable to state enterprises, financial institutions, and private firms. Guderian Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 The underemployed bureaucrats do so love awarding themselves and their mates long holidays. Why on earth are they taking Friday 29th off, it's got nothing to do with New Year and should be a normal working day? But, of course, if your days in the office are long and empty and your useful economic output is zero (or even negative in many cases), then why not? 1
keith101 Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Most SME and laborer's dont and can't afford taking extra days off and is only favorable to office workers who get paid whether they are there or not . In my country only holiday for this period is the 1st,New Years Day unless it falls on a weekend and only then an extra day is awarded .

For those unfamiliar with such things, on a regular basis the Thai Government will make such announcements on "extra" public holidays. Around 99% of the time this only applies to those entities under their direct control, being the public sector. 1
ikke1959 Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 And the 1st of January everybody has to travel home, but it is normal a family day... Why not a day of on the 2nd of January instead of the 29th December??
DJ54 Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Keep adding holidays and soon they’ll have a calendar for workdays because holidays out number the work days…
