Welcome to Thailand ,

where “some” havent learned proper

manners !

Really?

This type of people exist globally.

Some beat the smart devices by their normal conversation!

Ever experience that on a crowded BTS?

Yes, absolutely! The art of parenting is a lost art, so if you're expecting parents to set limits for their children or ask their children to listen to their device at a reasonable and polite level, that is just not going to happen, at least not here. Most kids are the parents these days, and run the house. Most parents are absolutely out to lunch.

The other  aspect of this, these days, is the need to walk into a place and scout it out first, before I even commit to a meal or a cup of coffee. If there are obnoxious people talking loudly on their phones, or listening to their devices without a headset, or even having a very, very loud conversations, I just turn around and walk out. So it's up to us to kind of set our priorities, as this is a spectacularly inconsiderate world that we're living in these days. And most people are oblivious to the noise they are generating with their devices. Most cannot even sit down for a few minutes without the device addiction manifesting itself.

And how about those blaringly loud notification sounds? We live in a bizarre world.

Is it the case if you can't beat them then join them.

You'll never beat them, there's too many of them!

I always do the scouting thing whenever I go into a restaurant, coffee place, etc.

I won't sit down in a place with rude nitwits.

Of course, you could sit down feeling comfortable in your analysis of the situation

and here comes a jackass and he plants himself right near you.

Very true indeed.

Seems humans have become insensitive to noise and inconsiderate to fellow beings. It's 'my world, only me' kind of thing.

Don't forget most Thais have hearing damage, from an early age, the schools, village, and temple blaring speakers, and those trucks with speakers, The schools seem to be the worst, I'd like to watch the inter-school football, but the commentator non stop shouting over the speakers makes impossible for me.

We went to a 'School Party' and the volume was 83 !! decibel. I kid you not.

I do have headset noise canceling which I wear, but that doesn't really help that much.

Solution: Turn up the volume!

Wherever did they get the money for the batteries? Didn't they take like 10 D cells or something?

They have some nice gsm cellular network jammers. People have them in a bag and it cuts all network in the limited radius. But these gadgets are not permitted in many countries so would not recommend this at all.

Most of those jammers will block GPS signals.   There was a case years ago in Louisiana, U.S. of A. that blocked the GPS signal of a ship transiting in the Mississippi river in a fog.  The pilot or ships captain attempted to bring the ship to a stop, but it ran into a bridge before it could stop.   The device was located in an apartment building.  It was determined that the jammer had an almost 1 kilometer radius!

Another jammer in Philadelphia, PA, U.S. of A., was blocking GPS signals for aircraft that flew over the building it was located in, as the aircraft flew over the building.

The United States considers jamming of GPS signals to be a National Security Issue of high priority and investigates the jamming cases.

I think you are correct, or it could have been 12 D cells.

Same with women using their phone NOT on their ear but on speaker. If too loud/long then I just speak - in direction of the phone - "stop this telephone call and come back to bed". Works wonders - their facial expressions are absolutely fantastic!

That is brilliant. I cannot stop laughing.

Carry a bluetooth speaker with you and drown them out.

But seriously. Even noise cancelling earphones won't be enough. You would probably need a pair of good quality,  over the ear noise cancelling headphones.

The best are probably Bose Quiet Comfort, but I bought some decent ones from Aliexpress: Edifier WH950NB for about THB5500.

Bluetooth, and the noise cancelling is very good.

I often wear them at home while watching tv so I don't disturb the daughter doing her studying or homework.

I don't go to coffee shops anymore.  Got tired of searching for a seat while some skanky yoga instructor is sprawled out on sofa alone at a table for 6 or more having ordered only one coffee four hours prior and is only 10% of the way through her emails.

Very true.... I visit Japan a lot and the degree of social consideration and conformity there is exceptionally high.

Haha! I often wonder what all the Japanese tourists (and senior company staff) make of (the lack of) Thai manners and the driving standards!

I am just wondering if anyone has this annoying issue with people streaming video content on their mobile phones without a headset.

Annoying? It's disgusting, and spreading fast most every where, not only in Thailand. Some even do it on flights. Indians are famous for this.

This might be the 'new normal' in the future!

I also think that happens more and more.

There was a time when one long look in the direction of such an annoying person made them rethink what they do.

But it seems now most of those idiots just ignore everybody else and continue with their noise.

Most of the time I am not long enough in those places to do anything. I thought about playing something loud myself. In a (good enough) restaurant I would ask the manager to take care of this. And probably I would ask loud enough so that the person hears it already when I tell the manager. Somehow, I don't have hope the situation will get better in the future.
