Annoying issues with loud smart devices

Yes, absolutely! The art of parenting is a lost art, so if you're expecting parents to set limits for their children or ask their children to listen to their device at a reasonable and polite level, that is just not going to happen, at least not here. Most kids are the parents these days, and run the house. Most parents are absolutely out to lunch. 

 

The other  aspect of this, these days, is the need to walk into a place and scout it out first, before I even commit to a meal or a cup of coffee. If there are obnoxious people talking loudly on their phones, or listening to their devices without a headset, or even having a very, very loud conversations, I just turn around and walk out. So it's up to us to kind of set our priorities, as this is a spectacularly inconsiderate world that we're living in these days. And most people are oblivious to the noise they are generating with their devices. Most cannot even sit down for a few minutes without the device addiction manifesting itself. 

 

And how about those blaringly loud notification sounds? We live in a bizarre world.

Very true indeed. 

Seems humans have become insensitive to noise and inconsiderate to fellow beings. It's 'my world, only me' kind of thing.

Don't forget most Thais have hearing damage, from an early age, the schools, village, and temple blaring speakers, and those trucks with speakers, The schools seem to be the worst, I'd like to watch the inter-school football, but the commentator non stop shouting over the speakers makes impossible for me.

We went to a 'School Party' and the volume was 83 !! decibel. I kid you not.

Whenever I come across such situations then I address the particular person directly. Wondering if they are deaf or if they have another problem they usually walk away or switch off their gizmo (in the BTS that is, quite often) - most embarrassing for the culprit as well as for the bystanders who all do not like it but do not dare to say anything. 

Same with women using their phone NOT on their ear but on speaker. If too loud/long then I just speak - in direction of the phone - "stop this telephone call and come back to bed". Works wonders - their facial expressions are absolutely fantastic!

But seriously. Even noise cancelling earphones won't be enough. You would probably need a pair of good quality,  over the ear noise cancelling headphones.

 

The best are probably Bose Quiet Comfort, but I bought some decent ones from Aliexpress: Edifier WH950NB for about THB5500.

Bluetooth, and the noise cancelling is very good.

 

I often wear them at home while watching tv so I don't disturb the daughter doing her studying or homework.

I don't go to coffee shops anymore.  Got tired of searching for a seat while some skanky yoga instructor is sprawled out on sofa alone at a table for 6 or more having ordered only one coffee four hours prior and is only 10% of the way through her emails.

Annoying? It's disgusting, and spreading fast most every where, not only in Thailand. Some even do it on flights. Indians are famous for this.

This might be the 'new normal' in the future!

I also think that happens more and more.

There was a time when one long look in the direction of such an annoying person made them rethink what they do.

But it seems now most of those idiots just ignore everybody else and continue with their noise.

 

Most of the time I am not long enough in those places to do anything. I thought about playing something loud myself. In a (good enough) restaurant I would ask the manager to take care of this. And probably I would ask loud enough so that the person hears it already when I tell the manager. Somehow, I don't have hope the situation will get better in the future.
