Peterphuket Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 This afternoon I suddenly experienced problems with total power failure in my huose. When plugging in a battery charger, the Safe-T-Cut jumped out. Nothing special you might say, initially I thought of the charger but every time the STC switched off. Then you think of something more serious, like a boiler I have in the attic, or at least a ground fault. But nothing of the sort. It seems to be the STC itself, it consists of 2 parts, I only found out today, and if you press the modular part, it switches off. So got this one out for now, with the necessary risks, I am aware of that, but my question is if anyone recognises this problem. 1
Crossy Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 When it trips, are you seeing anything in the little window of the "shunt-release" section? I'm assuming you are as it doesn't trip when the RCBO section is removed. Best way to start diagnosis is to turn off all your breakers, does it stay on? If so then turn on one by one until it trips. Check that circuit. If it won't stay on with everything else off, you're looking at a faulty unit or an N-E fault. 1

That's true it don't trip with the RCBO removed, that what you sugest one by one, I had started with that, and no without the RCBO section everything is working now. Because it's dark now, tomorrow I'll place back the module but it looks like a bad contact, I dont have to push the yellow test switch but it happens when I touch the RCBO module.
Peterphuket Posted November 5, 2023 Author Posted November 5, 2023 found the problem today, it was in the safty-cut itself after all. Opened the module and in it the red wire in particular was pressed on the connector, which if you pressed on the whole STC made the unit trip. 1 1
Crossy Posted November 5, 2023 Posted November 5, 2023 Did you manage to fix the issue or will you have to get a new module??

Yes i manage the problem, when you look to the print 'RV.2, the connector is located at the other side, on the print side you will see the solder-joints, and it was there the red wire pressure on the joint through the wire insulation. Everything is working as normal again. 1
stix40 Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Afternoon Guys electric shower test button does not shut off power to unit when shower is working. I am presuming the shower unit is dangerous and needs to be changed. I believe it's over 7 years at least. Thanks in advance.
Chris Daley Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Not a day goes by without an electrical problem in my house. Absolute <deleted> show.

Many use a standard RCBO for a simple fix.
stix40 Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Thanks Crossy for the quick reply, it has got a breaker above the shower unit on the bathroom wall high up but I not sure if I trust them to be quick enough, in the event of a fault , hopefully I can persuade the landlord to replace! Thanks again 👍
Crossy Posted November 8, 2023 Posted November 8, 2023 Pop the lid off the shower and post a naked photo 1
