The Marriage Equality Bill has been given the green light by the Thai Cabinet, as the country progresses towards the legalisation of same-sex marriage

Considering Thailands reputation for understanding mixed genders this has been a long time coming.

Presumably if passed, recognition will only be of same sex "partnerships/marriages" if one of the parties is Thai. For non-Thais who have legal recognition in other countries, the discrimination would still apply.

Yes and no.

There is a cultural tradition with katoeys but cisgender gays and lesbians are not as well accepted in Thailand as many westerners imagine. They see only the superficial.

Same Sex Marriage?

How would that affect  a Foreign Woman marrying a Thai Woman

or a Foreign Man marrying a Thai Man when it comes to Visa extensions?

Who if anyone would have to show the money in the bank?

Who would be the Husband and who would be the Wife when dealing with Immigration.

At the moment a foreign husband has the show the 400k in the bank.

A foreign wife has to show nothing.

@Jingthing That is why I made my comment, as above. Until there is clarification, there are interalia tax implications that need to be addressed. The Thai RD are going to be confused enough by the new interpretations, since amended, and doubtless to be amended again.

People can live happily in relationships without a piece of paper.

Leave marriage to be between a real biological  man and real biological woman. :)

You mean normal gay guys and lesbians. We don't need this cis nonsense.

Above is a troll post. Nobody wants mandatory marriage of any kind.

That wasn't a troll post, it was the post from a man who remained in a monogamous marriage for 16 years.

I don't know a single gay man who lasted 16 weeks in a state of monogamy, much less 16 years.  It's bloody hard, as any man who has been through it can tell you.

My gay acquaintances wanted the benefits and status that accompany marriage, but then for the institution to accommodate their polyamourus lifestyle.  That's why no sober person can call a gay union a "marriage" with a straight (no pun intended) face.  A gay man understands marriage about as well as I understand the San Francisco bath house scene, which is not at all.
