The Cabinet agreed in principle on Tuesday to an amendment to the Interior Ministry’s regulations which would allow pubs and bars in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Chon Buri and Koh Samui to stay open until 4am.

It was not, however, specified when the new licencing hours will come into effect, but earlier reports tentatively suggested December 15.

The Interior Ministry has proposed the changes to promote tourism and increase revenues.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has said that the new closing time is not only intended for tourists, but also for Thais whose businesses are related to tourism, such as restaurants and food shops.

Some Pattaya Tourism Operators Object to Late-Night Bar Operations on Beach Road
By Tanakorn Panyadee

Pattaya — A number of Pattaya tourism operators have voiced their concerns over the idea of allowing nighttime venues on Beach Road to operate until 4 AM, citing concerns about noise pollution, safety, and the overall impact on the city’s image.

Thanet Supornsahasrungsi, the newly-elected president of the Association of Chonburi Tourism Federation (ACTF), stated that while he welcomed the implementation of 4 AM operating hours, he emphasized that the regulation should be applied selectively.

He argued that late-night hours should be applied specifically only to establishments on Walking Street, the city’s popular and legal nightlife area, and not Beach Road or other parts of Pattaya due to its mix of family-friendly establishments and residential areas.

The Pattaya News notes that starting from December 15th, the Thai government will permit entertainment venues to remain open until 4 AM in a bid to spur the economy. The regulation will begin with five tourism destinations: Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and Pattaya.

Like you said, you have never been in a pub/bar. That might explain your ignorance regarding your comment "Get a life". If you never had experience of one, how can you know that people visiting do not have a life?

On the other hand, you are perfectly right, when you posted that you do not know.

M concern is by 4am only old, ugly fat bar girls will there to entertain

It's a knee jerk reaction to being shunned by Chinese tourists in large numbers, own it, Thailand!

They tried the same in England with night clubs staying open till 4 am, but NO alcohol sales after 2 am. I think that is the Thai authorities intention here. 4am closing but NO alcohol sales after 2am. That's what was on the agenda. It may have changed now.

This memo makes no mention of  "Entertainment Zones".  Are they just going to jettison that whole stipulation?

Yeah, they never intended to enforce it, anyways, so why bother.  Just open up the whole joint and let the chaos

begin.

I wouldn't know I have never been in a pub.  I had lunch outside a pub one time because my gf choose that place.  Why would you be out at 4am?  Get a life.

Why not?

Pubs are the community hub in the UK.

I used to stay in bars here until 7 am  about 25-30 years ago; they were often busy at 4am

Sounds like you're the one who needs to get a life. Why do you care what other people do with theirs? None of your business if we want to party late.

Let the market (patrons and venue owners) decide how late they want to go. As long as they're not hurting or disturbing anyone - there is no problem. Nonsense about more drunks or more drunk drivers is just that - people who drink and drive will do it anyway, and tourists don't drink and drive anyway, at least not the ones with a brain.

They should carry out a survey after the High season has finished

And find out was it worth it financial wise staying open until 0400hrs

Paying staff extra plus sales 🤑

I know a few club managers and owners in Bangkok. They're absolutely thrilled and can't wait for this. For some no name pub you may be right - keeping it open for 3 people another 2 hours is not great, but for a club with hundreds of people there's absolutely a lot more business coming their way.
