Pornhub among X-rated sites falling under Europe’s strict new law for online content

The European Union is wielding its sweeping new rules for big online platforms in order to crack down on pornography sites Pornhub, Stripchat and XVideos.

The European Commission, the bloc’s executive body, announced Wednesday that it had added the sites to its list of “very large online platforms” or VLOPs, a classification that subjects them to tougher standards covering age verification, content moderation and transparency under the landmark Digital Services Act.

“Creating a safer online environment for our children is an enforcement priority under the DSA,” European Commissioner Thierry Breton said on X as he unveiled the three additions.

 

 

The commission said in a statement that, following an investigation, it had found that all three platforms had at least 45 million average monthly users in the EU — the threshold for becoming a VLOP.

Pornhub said in a statement on its site that, in the six months to the end of July, it had 33 million average monthly users in the EU.

A European Commission told CNN Wednesday that it judged Pornhub to have met its higher threshold through its investigation, which included an analysis of information provided by third-party sources and discussion with Pornhub. One example of such sources is search engines.

Kind of a world wide issue isn't it?  Men forced to watch porn and masturbate because female sexual company in western countries is mostly terrible.   They just don't want men to have any fun even by themselves.  Glad I am in Thailand when I read this.

It's all part of the plan to make women dominant, IMO. If men don't need women for sex then they ain't going to be controlled as they might decide they don't need women at all.

Wonder what the wowsers are going to do when sex androids are a reality? That is going to pose a very real threat to female dominance.

Not so much about female dominance as they still suffer from inequality in many EU countries. More to do with The Children^(TM) who cannot control their curiosity.

The whole "porn is bad for children" thing is BS IMO. Western people treat sex like it's some dirty secret that will turn children into monsters if they find out.

Sex is a normal animal function, but only humans treat it like it's abnormal. Just the way they go on about nudity is demented, as if some parts of our bodies are so disgusting that they can't be allowed to be seen. What the <deleted> is so vile about a nipple that it just has to be hidden if it's on a female?

What's vile, IMO, is that adults don't educate their children about what an actual loving relationship is, so they turn to porn and think that's normal.

Seems adults are so ashamed of sex that they can't even discuss it with their children.

If children knew what a loving relationship was, then they might treat porn as what it is, entertainment for adults.

Well, ok. Got your point. Porn had existed since before Roman times, e.g. Pompeii, which was an R&R center, had porn on the city walls. The Greeks liked young boys etc. Showering with classmates after rugby in my youth was accepted and there was no shame in seeing naked bodies. 

However, whereas pedophilia was more accepted in history, society has moved away from it. People associate children watching porn with nascent moral corruption. I don't agree, as you, that it has a huge effect but I haven't seen any research on it yet

My thinking on this has evolved.

 

I'd say not a male on here didn't as a youth rummage through Dad's sock drawer to find his secret stash of porn, it was for many of us sex ed

 

But was different, it portrayed a stylized version of 'regular' sex'. Even the teenage male brain I 'think' got that.

 

Compare that to todays online porn that any kid can access.

 

Todays porn doesn't represent that stylized porn of regular sex, it's often more violent, more degrading and extreme and thats unfortunately what a lot of teenage boys now accept as 'regular' for their sex ed

 

A mature adult brain can see the difference between reality and fantasy, not so sure a 14-15 year old boys mind can tell the difference

Which reinforces my point that parents need to educate their children about "normal" sex in a loving relationship, but most parents leave it up to school which is a waste of time IMO.

I had zero sex education at school and found out the hard way, by trial and error.

BTW, porn in my youth, at least what I could access, was modest nudity as exemplified in Playboy. It was so "out there" in normal society that the first centerfold with visible pubic hair caused a commotion.

My first paper "crush" was a woman in a bath in a shampoo ad in a magazine. I can still visualise it today. Nothing visible below the shoulders.

Later crushes included an ad for a Norton motorbike ( the female pretty with the bike, not the bike, though the bike was pretty sexy too, unlike the current versions ). I can still remember that one too. Imagination of a young lad is impressive when it comes to the object of our lust.

Well back in the day very few of us had real sex ed, thats why Dad's porn was sex ed.

 

Thats why kids free access to today's porn is dangerous.

 

I have two daughters and one son, and I think me and their Mom's had pretty frank discussions about sex at the appropriate age.

 

But they are all old enough to be before the internet porn revolution, so they never had access to any of what todays kids can be exposed to at a really young age, and I say young not appropriate age!

 

Thats why I say, I'd never want restrictions on what adults can see, but I have evolved to say restrictions on what children can see is needed, and parents can then have those conversations

IMO parents should restrict what children do on the internet, and it should not impinge on adults ability to see legal porn. If parents do not control, their children, they are rotten parents.

 

I had a female friend that did not concern herself with what her son looked at on the internet, despite him spending every waking hour on it, and she was shocked, SHOCKED, when I suggested he was looking at porn. I wasn't trying to warn her or anything, it just came up in conversation and I said it as though I expected that he would be looking at it.
