I don't remember the Confederate States were allowed to secede peacefully from the United States in the American Civil War. And the United States is a federation. But China was never a federation. China has been a unitary state for thousands of years.

China has been expanding and contracting dramatically for thousands of years, and during most of that time Taiwan was not part of China.

The US Civil war started due to the confederate states firing on Fort Sumter: "they started it" which solved the problem the union faced of "what do we do about it?". A similar problem occurred after Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor: do we declare war only on Japan? Hitler solved that by declaring war on USA.

Anyone who thinks Taiwan would peacefully slip into CCP is nuts. They've had their experiences with dictators, and don't want to go down that path again. Would probably agree to reunification IF mainland agreed to be under Taiwanese goverence.

What you failed to mention is that a proposed bill that addressed this issue was opposed by China.

"Before 1997, the British colonial government introduced the Crimes (Amendment)(No.2) Bill 1996 in an attempt to concretise the concepts of "subversion" and "secession" by confining them to actual violent conduct but of no avail. The bill was voted down in the elected Legislative Council of Hong Kong amid opposition from Beijing and thus left a vacuum in the present legislation.[6]"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong_Basic_Law_Article_23#cite_note-6

What was the reason Beijing opposed that 1996 amendment? So that the LegCo may be given the opportunity to legislate the laws on its own after the 1997 handover?

Someone else operating via Pavlovian reflex. You clearly are utterly unacquainted with the facts. Biden has pushed far harder against China than any previous since Nixon's opening to that country.

Biden's weak on everything, not just CN, all due in part to his incredible influence peddling and corruption plus the fact that he's about as smart as a fence post and has proven that the past 40 or 50 years in politics. Throw in pathological liar status, you got one super mega weak liar corrupt loser in the WH, but likely not for much longer.

The Confederates were allowed to secede or not? That was the question. Not who fired the first shot. History is full of false flag operations and misunderstandings. The Marco Polo Bridge Incident marks the point of the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War. If Japan was not intending to conquer China, that incident would have been a minor issue, but it was used to justify a full-scale war with China. The same with the Fort Sumter shooting - it's just one bloody excuse. Ditto the Gulf of Tonkin incident and the Vietnam War.

It's not up to Taiwan to agree or not. Taiwan has an even bigger fertility problem than on the mainland. Its barracks are emptying out. It just doesn't have enough men to defend the island in the future.

Also, more and more sectors of Taiwan's economy have been lost to the mainland. Semiconductors is next. And no, China is not going to invade Taiwan to seize the TSMC factories, contrary to popular Western opinion. All China needs to do is wait, until Taiwan's economy goes down the drain, because it will, due to Taiwan's very low fertility rate and ageing population.

It's not up to Chine to decide. Taiwan has effectively been an independent country for decades. It's their call and theirs alone.

  • Top lawmakers are expressing concern that the U.S. is projecting 'weakness'
  • The White House downplayed the report, saying Xi's reported remarks are not 'different or new'

Top lawmakers are expressing concern that the U.S. is projecting 'weakness' after a new report revealed Chinese President Xi Jinping told President Biden he is planning to take over Taiwan soon.

Xi expressed to Biden during last month's APEC Summit in San Francisco, California, that China would 'reunify' with Taiwan, but the timing was still not determined, according to NBC News.

The Chinese president added that his preference is that Taiwan would be taken over 'peacefully' and not by force, according to three U.S. officials.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who serves as the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee called the report 'beyond unnerving.'

'To communist China, if you think you can bully your way into destroying world order without consequences, you will be making Putin's decision to invade Ukraine look wise,' he said in a statement to DailyMail.com.

The top Republican pledged to work with his Democratic colleagues to first push through a 'robust' defense aid package to Taiwan and also draft 'pre-invasion' sanctions on China.

He said imposing 'sanctions from hell' on China will deter the nation from trying to seize Taiwan.

The South Carolina senator added that 'apparently China sees weakness' when it comes to the Biden-led United States.

Another top Republican, Rep. Mike Waltz, echoed concerns that the Biden administration is projecting weakness.

'China's dictator came to American soil and told Biden his face he's taking Taiwan,' Waltz, R-Fla., wrote on X.

'The world will not survive 5 more years of this WEAKNESS in the White House!,' he continued.

What a load of crap -donnie goes over and salutes the North Korean Generals

who laugh at him. Grahama should not about weakness because he's a coward. China will wait till after the election they will not move on Taiwan with Biden in the WH our navy will put a hurting on them. If Jb is reelected china won't do s##t.

That's true to an extent. China has been consistent in saying that they want Taiwan to rejoin China peacefully and not by force, but that if Taiwan ever claims independence, China would take over Taiwan by force - there would be war. That's the Chinese line. All Taiwan has to do to prevent war is to keep to the status quo, remain an unofficial independent country and all will be fine. Keep it as it is now, don't declare independence and there will be no war and no takeover.

In 1987 he got called out for ...u guessed it...plagiarism. LOL....what a loser. Had to drop out, end his campaign after only 3 months. Another great addition to the humiliating Biden legacy. And wait, the congress is going to investigate the living daylights out of the Bidens with their supercharged impeachment inquiry subpoena powers. The Biden legacy of failures and embarrassments.

Biden is pretty dumb, and his vegetable brain has turned to mush and at the end of the day, the only people that are dumber than Biden are those that voted for him. Biden or whoever committed sedition, probably difficult for you to understand, but if you are referring to 14th, Sec 3, then giving aid and comfort to the ebemy is exactly what Biden HAS DONE. If you think about it, you might catch on. I am not trying to make you look stupid, as you seem to have that on full display here. Sorry for you, but go check the 14th and see how Biden has inculpated himself.

Irregardless, he is DOA for the ballot probably after New Years or maybe August after the DNC, but he's toast, even his own party wants him GONE, set out to pasture in an senior care center for invalids. If he talks nice to Trump, may there will be pardons for the crack head junkie tax felon and whomever else the Biden congressional colonoscopy investigation captures from the Biden crime family. One thing though, Joe did say the crack head  was the "smartest man he knows..." I suppose Hunter could be one of the most successful crackheads well. compared to the Kushners, Trump's family business empire, etc. LOL.

"Bidenomics":

3.7% unemployment ,4.95 GDP ,inflation decreasing  ,mortgage rates down  Biden Economics.    "pathological liar "

Trump’s false or misleading claims total 30,573 over 4 years

Seek therapy - you have been brainwashed -you need to be deprogrammed. You actually called Biden a pathological liar   -"accuse the other side of that which you are guilty"     Sad

Hardly surprising that Xi has no fear of Biden. The man can't even tie his own shoelaces. This is the problem with electing someone on the basis that they are not called Trump, you end up with a weak leader who gets no respect around the world. He is an international embarrassment for the once great, US of A.

China will do what they want, and Joe won't do anything apart from maybe tell some more of his special "made up" stories.

Another party who clearly has no knowledge of the strong steps Biden has taken against China. Far stronger than anything undertaken by the previous administration.

A recent study on U.S.-China trade concludes that Trump’s trade policies cost the U.S. economy nearly a quarter million jobs.

Remember how Trump got China to purchase x amount of US goods? And how spectacularly that agreement flamed out?

Almost none of it was purchased I believe. From the party that believes in free enterprise of course. They're all over the map on policy because they don't have stated policies, only political talking points aimed at the stoking the outrage machine.

Did Russia withdraw in fear from various territories when Trump became president? Isn't it the case that Trump was unconvinced that Russia didn't have a right to invade Crimea? Isn't it a fact that Trump withheld aid authorized by law that was supposed to be sent to Ukraine. In fact he ignored Ukraine's entreaties for months. Only when Congress threatened to sue Trump, did he relent. And even then, lowlife that he is, he tried to sue that to instigate an investigation of his leading political opponent.
