The cabinet agreed to increases in minimum wages by 2-16 baht/day today, as proposed by the tri-partite wage committee. The new rates will become effective on January 1.

There are 17 minimum wage rates applicable in the 77 provinces across the country, based upon the cost of living and economic situation in each. The new minimum wages will be between 330 baht, an increase of 2 baht, and 370 baht, an increase of 354 baht.

Government spokesman Chai Wacharonke said Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn told the cabinet that, although the increase is minimal, the cabinet will have to accept the decision of the wage committee.

Does this mean that previously the 330 rate was 328, and the new 370 rate was 16?

Typo, should have read "from 354", which is the highest of the current rates.

The current average is 338 so there must be more nearer the bottom than the top.

and the common people only 2 THB???

Which equates to a 0.61% increase. Which makes the Govt. officials  +32 times more important! The PM seems to have been castrated this week. He has lost the balls he had last time he commented on this issue. Don't trust a man with odd socks.

Gotta keep the cheap labour so Thailand remains the sub-contract labour hub in S.E.Asia

Not sure 2 baht will even buy you an egg... maybe save up over two days and splash out.

If anyone recalls the last wage increase. Prices for food increased and quantity of food served became less yet that wage increase did not really change anyone's lifestyles. Instead Thailand household debt increased substantially as a result.. I wonder what this wage increase will do for the average person working legitimately and for the consumers.
