Same for me. However, at that moment, it was an emergency situation, and I genuinely thought I was about to go into shock. I was screaming at the nurses to get someone in to swipe my card before I fell unconscious, knowing the potential for disaster if I was not able to complete the "necessary" deposit. An unconscious patient in an emergency situation should never be declined emergency care.

An unconscious patient in an emergency situation should never be declined emergency care. I was asked about payment 5 days prior to surgery during pre-op checkup. My surgery was kidney removal... no emergency persee but the tumour had doubled in size in 6 months so was a "sooner rather than later" deal. As it turned out, my private insurance did cover to the operation and social security covered the private ward room.... I had to cover my food bill. Was your operation an emergency or pre arranged ? I would like to know if say an emergency by way of a traffic accident will the hospital give treatment if the patient has no funds or insurance ? Does the hospital recover the costs from the Thai government ? Posing this question to all readers , not you alone .

My emergency surgery in January was covered by Social Security (private insured declined), I was already in ICU for a different health issue. Reversal surgery (pre planned) in April my private did cover. Edited December 28, 2023 by Ralf001

Commission🤔 Because, as subsequent events bore out, he was too critically injured to make it that far. The hospital in question was less than 500m away from the scene of the accident - why would you take a critically ill patient with possibly only a few minutes to live, anywhere else? Also, as a rescuer, he undoubtedly knew that (as confirmed in the other threads on this incident) all hospitals are obligated to provide emergency treatment. 1 1

That displays at least a degree of sophistication on behalf of who ever wrote it. So its unlikely in my opinion to have originated from one of the orderlies / hospital porters who were on duty at the time of the incident Wherever there is money one will find mafia types the more money floating around the more these types proliferate, there is huge amount of money involved in private medical care, and when coupled with the equally lucrative insurance business, the potential for extortion must be absolutely irresistible for all involved I would bet that everyone of these private hospitals will have very influential people involved at the highest level which pretty much guarantees immunity from any problems at all Also possible that it was someone involved directly in the refusal, and they dont fancy jail time

Presented myself to hospital (actually drove the car but whole right side of my body really out of whack). Admitted to A&E. laid on a hospital bed (with not even the offer of a glass of water let alone any medical care) for 5 hours until my private insurance agreed to cover costs. Hopefully the hospital can be officially named as well as the executives at the hospital. Additional charges should be filed for making threats against Kittipong.
