At least 23 killed in firework factory explosion in Suphan Buri

At least 23 people have been killed and several others injured in an explosion at a firework factory in Suan Taeng sub-district of Suphan Buri province this afternoon.

 

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

 

The factory is licenced and is in an isolated location, far from any residential areas.

 

The cause of the explosion is not yet known, but investigators are at the scene.

Wasn't there another Fireworks explosion in Thailand around June of last year...

 

And another in November of last year ??....   Same area...  Same factory ???

 

 

What happened... the same people who make all the Truck brakes ?

There was a big explosion and fire at the dragon museum in Suphanburi city a few years back and they had to rebuild a lot of it.

National Police Chief General Torsak Sukwimol took charge of the response to the disaster on Wednesday. He promised a full investigation and legal action if any wrongdoing was found. The devastation of the tragedy even left responding firefighters shocked with fears that all workers at the fireworks factory may have lost their lives.

Authorities in Thailand on Wednesday have been left stunned by a devastating explosion in Suphan Buri province in which at least 22 people lost their lives. All workers at the factory are thought to have perished in a massive explosion which wiped out the facility. Presently, the extent of the death toll is being established and the identities of those who perished are being published. In the meantime, the police chief has vowed to get to the bottom of the catastrophe. From Davos in Switzerland, a shocked and sombre Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin also made a similar promise. The factory was the subject of another explosion in November 2022 in which three were injured and one killed. 

 

A disaster erupted in Suphan Buri on Wednesday afternoon. Tragedy struck when a firework manufacturing factory, situated in Village No. 3, Sala Khao Subdistrict, Mueang Suphan Buri District blew up.

 

The facility where 30 people were reported to be working was completely destroyed in a catastrophic explosion.

When there is no enforcement of safety standards, for either manufacturing, storage or transportation of fireworks, what else can be expected.

 

Under the DOT classification system, accepted world wide, fireworks are class 1, explosives. (Normally 1.3 or 1,4 depending on type of firework), and need to be treated as such.

 

When profit over rides safety, there is always going to be accidents.

 

The blame is not with the poor workers, but owners, managers and enforcement agencies. Was this place ever inspected?

Needs to be enforced and people made aware of what's required in their work place proper training needs to be applied 🤔

I thought fireworks factories were made up of a series of small buildings rather than one large one to keep down the number of casualties in the event of an accident.

Who is going to enforce though? They are all too corrupt and/or lazy. 

 

Taking 1,000thb to issue a cert saying everything is safe or to pass an audit instead of doing the job properly is the norm here.

Up to them. Their country. Their culture. Their lives. No-one really seems to care if people die here, whether it be on the roads, on building sites, in factories. Ensuring safety anywhere is simply too much work. Aren't we due another nightclub inferno soon? Because we can be 100% certain that, a week after the last one and safety checks were ordered, it was all forgotten and countless places are still open with blocked or no fire exits, no sprinkler system, no safety measures at all.

All of those plus more- it just requires a little common sense, but it seems to me there is little correlation between common sense and education in Thailand.
