Democrats Rally Behind Biden Amid Report on Age Concerns

Featured Replies

Democratic leaders are coming to the defense of President Joe Biden following a report scrutinizing his handling of classified documents, which has reignited concerns about his age and mental acuity.

While Biden will not face charges for retaining classified materials, the report portrayed him as an "elderly man with a poor memory," sparking criticism from Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic figures. Harris labeled the characterization as "gratuitous, inaccurate, and inappropriate," and accused the prosecutor, Robert Hur, of being politically motivated.

Hur, a Donald Trump appointee, led the investigation into Biden's handling of classified documents, prompting scrutiny over his impartiality. Despite the White House's request for revisions to Hur's remarks on Biden's memory, concerns persisted about the report's objectivity.

Democratic lawmakers, including Senators Jeff Merkley and Tina Smith, denounced Hur's comments as inappropriate and accused him of politicizing his role as special counsel. The report's findings have fueled existing worries about Biden's age and cognitive abilities, with some viewing it as an attempt to undermine his presidency.

Despite these concerns, Democratic allies maintain their confidence in Biden's leadership. Senators like Jon Ossoff and Chris Van Hollen emphasized Biden's sharpness and effectiveness, dismissing the report's allegations as mere "noise."

However, Republicans seized on the report to bolster claims about Biden's fitness for office. Senator Thom Tillis expressed concern about Biden's performance, stressing the need for a president who is consistently "on their game."

Age-related concerns have dogged Biden since the onset of his re-election campaign, with critics questioning his ability to fulfill the demands of the presidency. While similar gaffes by former President Donald Trump have not drawn as much criticism, Biden faces heightened scrutiny due to perceptions of his age and mental acuity.

Moving forward, Biden's campaign will need to address these concerns head-on to overcome doubts about his fitness for office. As the 2024 election looms, the spotlight on Biden's age and cognitive abilities is likely to persist, posing a significant challenge for his re-election bid.

It must be a bad feeling knowing in your heart that Biden is not a suitable candidate  for POTUS, yet having to cover for him because there isn't anyone any better in your party that can win against Trump, and being so terrified of Trump winning that they have to cover for a geriatric that belongs in a retirement home, not the White House.

If Biden were as bad as a bet for the 2024 election as Trump supporters would have us believe, they’d be keeping very quiet about it until Biden is locked in to the candidacy.

Oddly, they’ve been doing their best to get Democrats to change Biden out for another candidate.

I think old people come in various shapes, sizes and cognitive abilities. It is true that Trump and Biden are similar in age, but they are not similar in oomph or cognitive ability. As you say, these filthy hypocrites would be cheering to high heaven if the DOJ cancelled Trumps indictment on a similar offence for the same reason.

For example, I am 70 and have rapidly diminishing cognitive ability and energy levels.

I would support an age disqualification for politics as there are way too many grey, old, white men in US politics. I have suggested the you should have to be below 70 years of age on the date the election is run.

The many problems plaguing America at home and on the international scene begs the question: how much impact has Biden's very obvious cognitive decline impacted the country?? Needs to be a serious reaction to the current dilemma unfolding concerning Biden's mental decay and quickly analyze the way forward under the circumstances. The DOJ SC recent assessment of Biden's cognitive issues is a massive POLITICAL kneecapping and likely spells the end of Biden's ability to continue his presidential charade. Bad times for America from a senile and corrupt fool in the WH.

Trump appointed, but working for Merrick Garland, Biden appointed. Do you think Garland (who is no dummy) would appoint a special prosecutor who would blade his boss?

As a former US president is quoted saying, "you'd have to be crazy to want this job!"

Hur got in some political jabs. Guess it was to be expected.

Not many of Trump's former cabinet members have anything good to say about him. These are Republicans and know him better than most.

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/01/18/opinion/trump-cabinet-election-2024.html

In the history of presidential cabinets, former President Donald Trump’s stands out for two qualities: turnover and dissension. Mr. Trump churned through cabinet-level appointees so fast that at times it seemed like he was still on “The Apprentice” and had to fire one official every week.

It's not just Biden. Trump has gaffes all the time. A few bad ones lately.

Should be a mandatory retirement age for congress and the president

Still, releasing it at all was Garland’s decision, noted Barr’s former deputy, Rod Rosenstein, particularly because Hur recommended no charges against anyone involved. Rosenstein noted that prosecutors regularly write documents explaining their decisions not to bring charges. And those documents are typically kept secret.

“Rob Hur didn’t issue a public report,” Rosenstein said. “He wrote a confidential internal memo. Attorney General Garland made the decision to release it.”

I can remember (just barely) when things were the other way around and JFK's callow youth was a concern.

Well, it wasn't professional. It was obviously done with a Republican slant, not objective at all, similar to the James Comey report that ultimately sunk Hillary.

Hur's only mistake was coming out with this report now instead of holding onto it until about a month before the general election.

He and his cue card people schedule a

press briefing on Hur’s findings , about being elderly and memory loss.

He goes off cuff and rants about his son  and then he furthered his Periled Presidency by saying,

“In response to a question about progress toward a cease-fire in Gaza, Biden expressed clear but measured concern, saying Israel’s response to Hamas was “over the top.” But that message was followed by an embarrassing gaffe, referring to the president of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, as the leader of Mexico. The slip appeared to undermine Biden’s defense of his own mental faculties”.

Biden's age is not a huge concern as long as he has a competent team to support him. His, and his family's,  corruption is, however, another matter.

We Brits have had more than our fair share of poor quality PMs lately, but we have - so far - managed to avoid installing a leader suffering from age-related cognitive decline which is unlikely to get better.

Surely there must be better, younger candidates available in both parties?

(Imo the imposition of an upper age limit for being a candidate, as suggested by retarius, makes a lot of sense).

I have said this before - the American Voters will get what they deserve and the rest of the world will have to suffer for it!

But it is sad to see the demise of a once great nation.

As regards corruption, well nothing has been established about this, and although many Republicans have looked into this matter, no one has found any evidence of corruption.

The Trump family corruption though, is an entirely different matter.

What is hilarious is that the Prosecutor used Biden's mental decline as an excuse not to prosecute him, and not the left is attacking him for saving Biden from prosecution.

Yeah, Biden's sharp as a tack.

Yeah, Biden's sharp as a tack.

What’s even funnier is, he didn’t.

And you don’t understand the difference.

Biden's being prosecuted? That's hilarious.

Hey, wasn't there a link in the OP of Biden speaking? Wonder why that was deleted. Not.
