Embattled deputy national police chief, Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, called a press conference today to declare his innocence, after he was among five police officers charged by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for allegedly extorting money from an illegal online gambling network.

Thailand’s ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra paroled raising legal questions

Convicted former Prime Minister of Thailand, Thaksin Shinawatra, has been granted parole in compliance with legal criteria, according to Police Colonel Tawee Sodsong, the Justice Minister. This comes following Thaskin’s return to Thailand last year, during which he did not serve any jail time.

Thai exports for January up 10%, the highest in 19 months

Thai exports have risen for six straight months, with export value for January increasing by 10%, to US$22.6 billion, while imports went up by 2.6%, to US$25.4 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of US$2.8 billion, according to Kirati Ratchano, permanent secretary of Commerce.
